Arcadia Theatre in Floresville Damaged by Fire
Fire damaged the Arcadia Theatre in Floresville early Sunday night with losses estimated between 6000 and 10000 dollars. About 200 people were inside but everyone escaped unharmed as fire crews fought the blaze with three water streams. Owner Carl Johnson said 18000 feet of film and his sound equipment were destroyed along with the projection room and balcony roof. Reconstruction and new sound equipment will begin immediately.

County Red Cross Drive Surpasses Goal in Floresville
In one hour aided by P T A workers and others County Chairman E L Wildman announced that Floresville topped the drive within an hour after the annual Red Cross Fund Campaign opened Friday. The quota was 60500 but over 9000 was raised. Reports indicate other school districts in the county are also meeting with splendid success.

Porter dies from rifle wound in Floresville shooting
Ernest Porter, 39, a long time Floresville resident and discharged colored soldier, died Friday afternoon from a gunshot wound to the right breast inflicted by a Jap rifle behind Lange Cafe and Bar. James Walker was struck in the wrist by the same bullet. Virgil Riley surrendered to Deputy Sheriff Tom Wright and posted a $2,000 bond after being charged with murder.

Dionicio Acosta 52 years 4 months 22 days of Wilson county died March 3 1946 at Blake hospital Floresville after months of illness. Religious rites were held March 5 at Blessed Sacrament Church Path with burial in Blessed Sacrament Cemetery. He served 14 months as Texas Ranger on the Rio Grande and 10 years as deputy sheriff of Wilson county under Sheriff A B Carnes. He was Path city marshal and night watchman for 12 years. Sutherland Springs claimed the Senior Boys title while Floresville won the Junior Girls and Kosciusko took the Junior Boys crown.
