Douglas Potts Returns Home From Sea Disasters

Douglas Potts, a Floresville native and U.S. Merchant Marine seaman, survived the wreck of the SS Pendleton off Massachusetts on February 19. He was third engineer aboard the tanker, 41 aboard, 32 survivors. He planned to rejoin duty after a stint with Shell Oil in Houston and visited family in San Antonio. The Houston Chronicle story by Marshall Vermaud recounted his ordeal.

Scouts Exposition Planned at San Antonio Coliseum

Local Explorers Boy Scouts and Cub packs led by Douglas Burris and Adolph Hoelscher prepare for the Alamo Council Scout Exposition at Seer County Coliseum in San Antonio on March 14 and 15. Local Engineer to Take Post in Floresville

Texas Highway Department official Gene Koch will leave March 1 to become Senior Resident Engineer in Floresville. Emil Sewald of San Antonio will replace him in the local office, moving with his wife and son. Mrs Koch and their three children will join him in Floresville soon.

Earl Bryan Buys 453 Acre Place Near Floresville

Earl Bryan, a Floresville farmer stockman, purchased 453 acres adjoining the John T. Harris place about 16 miles southwest of Floresville in McCoy country from Marshall Henson of Pleasanton. Henson is the son of long time citizen John Henson. The deal closes.

24 Inductees for February 14 Armed Forces Intake

Texas Local Board No 8 Karnes City posts February 14 induction list of 24 names from Wilson Karnes counties for Army and Marine Corps service. The call designates March 26 as induction date for 418 inductees with no pre induction physical since system delay. Stockdale County Show Final Grooming For 4 H FF A

County agents urge boys to groom calves hogs chickens and other livestock for the stockdale 4 H and FFA show on the school campus March 14 15 16. About 148 contestants will judge fat barrows lambs dairy cattle steers and swine with experts J W Howe Glenn Ellison and Bill Rector handling judging and classes. Guests from the Union Stockyards will attend and visiting boys who sell fat stock in San Antonio are invited to attend Monday events.

Kosciusko Votes on School Bonds in April

Kosciusko voters will reestablish the school tax at its present limit and approve a small bond for repairs and improvements to the Kosciusko School and grounds. School trustees' election occurs early next month with incumbents Lyssy and Pruski seeking re-election while Kolledziej not running.
