Floresville Dominates Pleasanton Relays With Wins

Floresville athletes shine at the Catan Relays in Pleasanton as about 20 schools competed. William Warren won the Shot Put with a Relays record 48 feet 3 inches and Sam Houston took second in Pole Vault. Both earned medals as Floresville eyes the Wilson County School Meet on March 21–22.

Carl Johnson Buys Gem Theatre

Carl Johnson owner of The Arcadia Theatre, after 23 years in the local motion picture business, closed a deal to purchase The Gem Theatre. He assumes the lease on the Tulles Building, occupier of The Gem, and the Paget contract. Gidney Talley of Pleasanton had operated The Gem for Talley. Jack Matthews had managed The Gem for Mr Talley.

Rural School Children’s Day Show in Wilson County

County wide rural school event features half day for students with 10:00 a.m. show at the Wilson Camp grounds, livestock exhibits, and $100 cash prizes for Calf and Swine divisions. Demonstrations, meals, an evening rodeo, band, and amusement rides accompany the program with admission 10 and 20 cents.

High School Choir Performs Love Divine Cantata

Thieves Active In Floresville Amid Tire Thefts

Floresville experiences a week of petty thefts targeting tires and wheels from cars. Four cars lost two tires and wheels, including owners Elmo Wright and A G Rodriguez. Police report ongoing investigations with no arrests and urge residents to lock vehicles and garages. Meanwhile Floresville hosts a two day county wide F F A Fat Stock and Open Breeders Show at the CCC Camp with rural school children taking part today as part of Rural School Children's Day.

Candidates File For City Election

Midnight March 1 marked the final filing for the city election to be held Tuesday April 1. Most incumbents filed for re election except Alder man W J Ellinghausen who did not run on personal and school board duties. Dr William Oxford replaces Ellinghausen. City marshal Ed McDaniel seeks re election against J G Youngblood. The full ticket will be voted on at the coming election.

Junior Track Meet Opens Wilson School Meet

The opening program of the Wilson School Meet will be the Junior Track and Field Meet. The event is scheduled for next Friday night and marks the start of the school competition season.

Tractor And Feed Machinery On Show At Stock Event

Two local firms will exhibit and demonstrate tractor and feed processing machinery at the F. F. A. Fat Stock and Open Breeders Show at the fair grounds today and tomorrow. R. L. Eschenburg and Floresville Motor Company provide the features with a John Deere representative leading the Eschenburg exhibit. Demonstrations are free with admission and open to all interested.

Twelve Selected Men To Report March 19

The Wilson County Selective Service Board lists twelve men chosen for induction. They must report at 10:00 A M on March 19 to Floresville Local Board before being sent to an Army induction station at Fort Sam Houston Texas. The volunteers include Rufino Ortiz and John Joe Nieto of Floresville. The group also features Frank Mantios Pantoja Eduardo Resendez Gonzales also from Floresville.
