Witness recounts a chaotic attack in the press gallery as a shooter opened fire near the speaker's stand. He describes a rapid exchange of gunfire, a Puerto Rican flag waved by a bystander, and crowd panic with about 1000 visitors present. Kennedy later reported seeing Puerto Rican intruders in the gallery.
Ss ville Boy Scouts promote the Boy Scout Exposition at Bexar County Fairgrounds in San Antonio. The event runs two nights from 7 to 9 with tickets at 50 cents. Scouts urge parents to attend or buy tickets to support youth programs nationwide.
Richard Eugene Popham a 31 year old dairyman from Fairview west of Floresville died after a Pear burner explosion on his father Eugene Popham's dairy farm. He was burned about 70 percent of his body and died at San Antonio Baptist Memorial Hospital after transport by Murray ambulance. Survived by widow Elizabeth Thompson Popham and five children, parents, siblings, and extended family. The community held a large service at Fairview Church with burial at Fairview Cemetery. He was well liked and enjoyed time with the youth of the community.
The San Antonio area report notes a fourth producer in Wilson County at an Austin Chalk crevice well, with early estimates ranging from 5,060 to 10,000 signs a day and production from an acidized open hole at 2,900 to 71 feet. Shut in pressure is listed at 275 pounds, and the rig was reworked after abandonment in April 1962 with tanks being built. The piece also mourns a local farmer and community member, expressing sympathy to his family.
Floresville businessman Joe C. Donaho won the 12th annual Floresville Peanut Festival presidency succeeding Douglas P. Burris who resigned for personal business reasons. Burris, manager of the Alamo Lumber Co, steps down after earning praise for prior leadership. Donaho, a veteran peanut and crop marketer, pledges full-time effort to maintain the festival’s high standards. The festival is set for September 24 to 26, 1964.
A rig accompany was being moved for Sutton Drilling Company No 1 Ed Kolledsiéj in Wilson west lines of a 111.6 acre Morrissey Survey lease, with a 4,500 foot wildcat and 4,200 feet from the north.
Countywide support is pledged for the annual 4 H Clubs and FLFWA Chapters Wilson County Livestock Show to be held at Path next Friday and Saturday March 12 18. Despite drought plans move forward with backing from Path Stockdale and surrounding communities. Exhibits include calves hogs dairy stock lambs poultry with fat stock sold on market. Judging times Friday March 12 begin at 9 AM. admission free at Path show both days.
