Wilson County citizens vote March 8 1994 in contested Democratic and Republican primaries. Polls open 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Clerk and Tax Office at the Floresville courthouse open. other offices closed. Early voting ends March 4 at 5 p.m. Voting guidance and sample ballot included.
Rodney Wiatrek of Stockdale was sworn in as Wilson County Commissioner to fill the unexpired term of John F. Wiatrek Sr. at the February 28 1994 Wilson County Commissioners Court meeting in Floresville. Wiatrek Sr. died February 15 while repairing a collapsed bridge in southeast Wilson County. he had not sought re election for Precinct 4.
Linda Mojica Floresville Wal Mart Store Manager announces Alberto Torres Jr of Stockdale as the 1994 recipient of the $1000 Wal Mart Foundation community scholarship. Alberto plans to attend the University of Texas at San Antonio. The award honors academic performance school and community involvement and need.
Wilson County DPS reports multiple minor crashes with no charges. John Wade Hunter, 30, of La Vernia, drove off FM S99 north of Sutherland Springs after an oncoming vehicle crossed lanes, skidded, and breached a fence. A separate morning incident near Stockdale involved a towed vehicle causing another fence breach and rollback. Katie Babe Todd, 29, of Stockdale, rolled a Nissan on FM 1681 due to wet pavement. Julian Hernandez Gomez, 83, of San Antonio, collided on FM 536 with Patty Holmes Tackitt, 59, of Floresville at a crossroad. Tackitt failed to observe Gomez. Patricia West Turner, 51, of Stockdale backed into a parked Oldsmobile at Diamond Shamrocks. citation issued. Mona Lisa Church, 23, of La Vernia, fatigued driving caused a single-vehicle departure near FM 775. Casey Michael Pruski, 18, of Stockdale, pulled over to allow a passing vehicle, hit a parked car, and rolled into a ditch but avoided a collision.
The Open Simmental Show at the S A Stock Show held February 12, 1994 produced winners from this area. Wesley Woytas showed ICR vig as the Inter tepion Heifer and earned reserve honors for Adi, eal 0.
Sacred Heart School hosts a 60th anniversary and alumni reunion on Saturday April 16 with an opening ceremony in front of the school at 4 30 p m. A special blessing and school tours follow as former students gather to reminisce and tour the facilities.
Floresville United Methodist Church hosts Merrill Connally talk on The Price of Freedom plus a movie and a build-your-own Chalupa meal. Alumni remember Sacred Heart, a 6:30 catered meal, 8 pm dance with Texas Sound Machine Dr., and a raffle. PFSS meeting March 8 with Alfonso Benavidas TDHS services talk at 7 pm.
The Head Start program in Floresville begins a community survey to determine local childcare needs and identify services for children. The effort seeks input from families and stakeholders to guide future program planning.
The Poth 4-H Club will host a rabies clinic sponsored by Dr. Deason DVM at Poth Plaza under the gazebo on Saturday March 12 1994 from 9 to 12. Rabies vaccines immunizations and other services available. For more information call Wendy Smith at 484-2512.
The 72 Brahman steer entries were split into three weight classes light medium and heavy with Kendall Chilek earning top honors in the lightweight division and an overall show champion named.
At the UIL Region XII Solo and Ensemble Contest held Saturday February 1 at Texas Lutheran, 101 band students were graded excellent or superior. Names listed include Diane Warzecha Anita Rodriguez Richard Barber Lorelei Polasek Marissa Pacheco Messésa Dziuk Kristi Mochrig A J Navarro Kevin Gupton John Holcombe Jessica Silva Leal Phillip Howard and others.
