J H Jay Pullin announces candidacy for Floresville ISD Trustee Place 7. He earned a Texas A&M master’s in mathematics and works in data processing training at USAA San Antonio. He was appointed to the board in 1982 and seeks a full term to improve local education.
Pennie Kolenda daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Kolenda a Floresville High senior earned a First Division Award at the Area IV DECA Contests in San Antonio Competing in Finance and Credit Competency Based event she reached the top twelve finalists to represent Area IV at the State Contest in Houston April 21 23 1983 Congratulations Pennie
State Comptroller Bob Bullock said 114.3 million in local one percent sales tax rebates went to 974 cities, the largest single payment since 1968. He cautioned merchants and officials not to overstate the impact. Meanwhile, Thess Tiget Boosters plan a Moped meeting on March 7 at 7 30 pm to finalize preparations for this year’s All Sports Banquet.

A wedding night's tragedy left Cindy Gibbons 21 dead after a pickup ran off Bryant Street three miles from All Saints Episcopal Church. Bride's husband Martin Popham 20 was charged with involuntary manslaughter, treated at Mercy Hospital in fair condition. Police say the vehicle struck a pole, two trees, a cube pickup and a chain-link fence after the reception. The crash occurred about 10:30 p.m. and an arrest warrant was issued Sunday.
Floresville High School will host an Open House in honor of Public School Week on March 9, 1983 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Students, parents, and the community are invited to view classrooms and meet teachers during the event.

Path Elementary School invites parents to visit during Texas Public School Week March 7 to 11, 8 00 to 3 30, to show support for the child’s education and the district’s teachers and learning environment. Principal C G Vetter extends a cordial invitation.
Mark Connally of First City National Bank is elected to the board representing Floresville. Wade Lorenz of Dow Chemical becomes regional chamber president, heading a fifty county South Texas Chamber with offices in San Antonio and programs in economic education development local service and legislative information. Founded in 1926, it is part of the Texas State Chamber system.
The Wilson County Soil and Water Conservation District sponsors a fish stocking program for residents. Channel catfish four to six inches cost 30 cents each, six to eight inches 45 cents each, and catfish two inches and bluegill from one to two inches priced at 32 cents and 7.0 cents respectively. details on remaining sizes and prices are provided by the district.
Floresville Lions announce a sale by members on Saturday March 12 to aid charity. Merchandise from the house all goes to sponsor children's needs downtown. Proceeds support local child welfare efforts and community programs run by the club.

City Chief Tony Griego reports four shoplifters, three adults and one juvenile, caught February 22 after a local merchant alert. Items stolen include baby clothes and underwear from Bill's Dollar Store, with total value over 200 dollars across Bill's Dollar Store Winn's Ben Franklin and Super Ss Grocery. The quartet, listing Karnes City as their address, were apprehended at Bill's Dollar Store. Local merchants are urged to heighten watchfulness and cooperate with police for continued good service.
MADD Texas representatives joined about 120 members from across the state in Austin for a Senate Affairs Committee hearing on stricter DWI and DUID laws. Suzanne Hildbrand of San Antonio MADD and Marinelle Timmins of Houston testified alongside victims whose lives were affected by alcohol related crashes. Several victims spoke of impacts from incidents ranging up to ten years prior, highlighting lasting family and community damage. Senator Bill Sarpaliuss’ six bills addressing alcohol related offenses were the focus of the session.

Pete Sanchez named postmaster for Floresville after 21 years with the U S Postal Service. He will move with wife Irene Pacheco Sanchez and three children Pete Irene and Charles once housing is found. Sanchez comes from North Broadway Station in San Antonio where he was Station Superintendent.
Floresville police chief Tony Griego reports several burglaries within the city limits. A first break-in occurred at Zunker Garage with CBs and other items stolen. trucks and tires were moved to a vacant lot and later recovered. A third incident involved Floresville Light Co. property near the railroad yard. Police urge merchants to improve security.
