La Vernia public schools invite parents to visit during Public School Week on March 8 at 7 00 PM. The open house encourages viewing classrooms while in session and notes the growing influence of teachers and administrators on children. Principal Kenneth E Heallen signs the notice.
S W Seale calls Saturday morning hog sale at Joe Freeman coliseum the greatest show ever with top hogs fetching high prices. Grand champions sold for 8000 and 6000 plus, buyers from Southwest Texas and beyond attended as San Antonio Livestock Exposition set a ten day record crowd. 85 entries planned for La Vernia Kenedy event. Speaker Ben Barnes accepts invitation to join Rep Wayne Connally at a district wide Birthday Barbecue March 19 at Chamber of Commerce park grounds Kenedy area. Connally turning 43 and running for State Senator from enlarged 21st District. ticket chairmen named across 16 counties led by Mrs S E Bubba Newman. Wilson Co chair Sam Fore Jr.
A 15 day temporary voter registration runs March 3 to March 17 for those subject to the 1965 poll tax. W D Cox and deputies in Path Stockdale and La Vernia handle registration. Eligible are residents aged 21 to 60 who have not yet paid a poll tax receipt for federal state or local elections in 1966. Those over 60 may vote without registering. exemptions available 30 days before an election.
The Floresville Musical Club meeting on March 8, 1966, features Floresville Band members under instructor Charles Doiron. A clarinet trio, bass clarinet trio, cometa quartet, and flute trio perform, with solos by Albert Murillo, Joe Reyes, Mary Ann Woolsey, and Kathy Stevens.
The Floresville Chapter of Young Farmers met February 23 at Wright's Cafe. Agronomists Dale Mayeau and Ed Lehnert of the American Plant Food Corporation spoke, sponsored by Talley Feed and Seed. Attendees learned about new specialty fertilizers and planned a March 10 meeting on pasture and range management by Ray of the Wilson County Soil Conservation District at Floresville High School.
Dr Gene V Havérlah announces candidacy for School Trustee of Florésville Stana School District. He specifies his intent to serve the district and seeks support from voters.
The La Vernia Stock Show will be held March 5 at the La Vernia Chamber of Commerce Park. Judging starts 9:00 A M and the sale at 2:00 P M. Lunch served from 11:30 A M. Entries include 20 calves 24 lambs 16 hogs and 25 broilers. Everyone is invited for a day of pleasure and good food.
Don Boring, pastor and Floresville School Board member, will chair Floresville’s Red Cross March fund drive to support servicemen and dependents in Wilson County and worldwide. Paula Frick and Bob Wiseman assist. volunteers urged to enlist. President Johnson cites Red Cross aid in Vietnam and local disasters.
Fritz L Graeber receives a promotion to Records Management Specialist with the Soil Conservation Service in Washington DC. The Graebers plan to move Monday from Floresville, with children Michael 14 and Glynis 13, leaving a long community involvement behind including Boy Scouts Little League Lions Club and First Lutheran Church leadership roles.
The 68 member Aransas Pass High School Choir under Mrs. Martha Luigi will sing two anthems during the 10:30 a.m. Service of Worship at First Lutheran Church in Floresville on Sunday March 6 part of a regional tour. Senior and Youth Choir members will provide a light lunch after the service.
A voting booth will be set up at Saspamco School along with Floresville City Hall Fairview School and Sutherland Springs Community building for the Floresville Independent School District election to be held by April 2.
In a tight District 26-AA playoff at Poteet High, the Floresville Jaguars fell 59 to 52 to the Agates. Floresville's Maurene Merecka scored 16 and Debbie Johns 23, while Poteet's Hoffman pumped in 30 and Franklin 16. Floresville caps a strong season with two players named to the all district first team.

The community of La Vernia becomes a city after an incorporation election held on February 26. Final tally shows 9 percent for and 73 against, with residents optimistic about progress and a brighter future ahead.
Forty eight Floresville girls were chosen to be spotlighted in the Merienda Pageant at Texas Woman's University on March 26 at 7 30 p m in the Main Auditorium. Five will be crowned as Merienda princesses by six judges and one will be Merienda Queen. The event replaces Redbud Festival and closes Self Development Week on campus. Junior High High School and Elementary open houses are scheduled on different dates and times to let parents tour all campuses in one evening.
The Floresville Jaycees met February 28 1966 at Mac s Restaurant with President Sam Strozier presiding. Leon Johnson was elected president joining Harvey C Elliott as vice president and other officers including Robert Richardson secretary Delbert Traeger treasurer Norbert Wake inter club director Alex Gonzales internal director Joe Richardson external affairs director and Buford Lyons parliamentarian.
The 1966 Wilson County March of Dimes drive opened slowly due to weather illness and tax season delays, with $526.24 collected toward a $2,000 goal. Denhawken, Floresville Lions Club, and Floresville Mother's March reported forms of progress, while chairpersons and volunteers urged immediate efforts to meet quotas through events and house-to-house canvassing.
Prizes set for April art exhibit and sale at the big M McCreless Shopping Hall San Antonio. So New Braunfels Avenue and Danchy Road artists urged to register within days. $100 in cash awards, registration details via stamped self addressed envelope to Mrs Ruth V Clark 2025 Burton Avenue San Antonio 78221. All artists of any age race or creed eligible.
Mr. E. J. Kosarek of Poth will lead the Red Cross Fund Drive there during March and will appoint assistants later.
The Rev Will Matthis Dunn Sr Ph D of Edinburg will lead Religious Emphasis Week at Floresville Methodist starting Sunday March 6 at 7 30 PM with 6 30 AM sessions and evening meetings through Wednesday A nursery will be provided Dunn formerly chaplain in World War II and professor at McMurry College is named pastor of First Methodist Edinburg Texas and has pastored Kerrville and Port Lavaca churches.
The Fairview March of Dimes Committee sponsors their annual pie supper and domino party Saturday March 19 at 7 30 PM at the Fairview School. Mark the date on your calendar for a community fundraiser.
