Former George West Resident Freed From Jap Camp
George A. Goynes Sr. and five of his six children were released from Santa Tomas prison in Manila, after being captured in December 1941 when the Japanese seized Manila. The sixth child, Freddy Allen Goynes, serves with the merchant marine in the Pacific and was at Pearl Harbor. Relatives report they are in fair health.

Farmers oppose tax on nonhighway gas in bill hearing

Cubs and Artillery Help Finish Nazi Tanks at Bullingen
With the 2nd Infantry Division in Belgium Piper Cub liaison planes helped destroy six Nazi tanks during the Bullingen operation. First Lt Carr Jr of Floresville Texas and Second Lt Maxey of Lincoln Nebraska directed spotter fire as Cub observers, then briefed another observer after two hours, concluding one tank may have escaped.
