Leroy C. Buddy Howard Jr announces candidacy for Floresville Independent School District Place 1. He has served 12 years on the school board in roles including President Vice President Treasurer and Secretary and seeks continued support for the April 7 1984 election.
Rehearsals for the Wilson County Junior High Honor Band Concert begin for a March 3 event in Wiley Seale Auditorium. A small admission is charged. The program features students from La Vernia, Stockdale, Floresville, Path, and Falls County, with the Floresville Cub Band contributing ten performers including Carolyn Willeford, Cheryl Jung, Gissy Wood, Marvella Canales, Jonas Alvarez, George Mcinvale, Dechelle Norris, Ronnie Carter, Bernie Ott, Carl Braun, plus two Floresville sixth graders Karl Schulz and Greg Valdos. Tickets available at the door or from listed students.
Wilson County 4-H members excel at the San Antonio Livestock Show led by Reserve Champion Ready-to-Cook turkey. Listings show top placings in turkeys, steers, lambs, hogs, and broilers with multiple 3rd and 2nd places among the group. Educational programs by the Texas Agricultural Extension Service support these youths and leaders.
Floresville Public Schools will observe Public School Week from March 5 to March 9. Floresville Middle School and Floresville High School will host Open House on Monday with details to follow.
The Wilson County Arts and Crafts League will hold a meeting on Thursday March 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the library. Members and interested residents are invited to attend and discuss upcoming projects.
Floresville City Hall hosts an Open House at 6 30 p m on Thursday March 1 1984 for Floresville Miscilniary Intermediate Schools as part of Public School Week. The event runs from 7 00 to 8 30 p m with activities for the day organized by the schools.
A meeting of the Wilson County Reserve Officers is scheduled for Tuesday March 13 at 8 p m at the Criminal Justice Facility All members are urged to attend SPJST Lodge 107 will hold its regular meeting at 2 30 p m at the Youth Club
Deagen And Sons win National at the Santa Gertrudis Show in Baton Rouge on February 17 1984 with their heifer 65/2 taking National Santa Gertrudis Female. Since 1980 they have earned three National Champion Females and one National Reserve Champion Bull. At the San Antonio Stock Show on February 19 1984 they again top the field with several bulls placing from late Jr. Bull Calf to Aged Bull across multiple entries including Bull 88/3 266/3 2/220 1/144 1/215 and 0/171 earning top places and titles.
Deagen operation in Sutherland Springs Texas claims top spots with Senior Champion Bull Grand Champion Santa Gertrudis and Reserve Grand Champion Deagen’s. Champions include Champion Produce of Dam and Champion Best of Size. Ranch owned by Billy Melvin Johnie and Bubba Deagen invites visitors.
The Path Pirettes advanced to the regional semifinals in Victoria then fell to the Troy Trojanettes 43 to 5. Cynthia Dugi led with 16 points while Dawn Wiatrek added 15 and strong rebounding from Dugi Arnold and Janice Dziuk. The team finished 24-8 and undefeated in district play, losing 43 to 25 in the decisive game.
Wilson County Undersheriff Bob Carnes and Deputy Sheriff Alex Lopez, acting on a tip, visited the Hasbrook Ranch near Gray Lakes on February 21, 1984, where they found Daniel Garza Gil of San Antonio removing tires and wheels from a 1981 Mack truck tractor after identifying himself.
Agnes Stadler appeals for 45 units of blood to replace blood used by Josephine Foster after heart surgery and a subsequent procedure. The Blood Bank will operate at Sacred Heart Parish Hall in Floresville from 8:30 or 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sunday March 4.

A theft case involves a Mack truck stolen Feb 2 1984 in Corpus Christi owned by Gulfside Inc lien CIT Corporation. Suspect identified as Oil and Sons Trucking personnel held on 15000 bond. investigation by Wilson County Sheriff and DPS continues.
Floresville records note Robert Presly, chief of police for La Vernia, Texas, was acquitted of all abuse of officer charges after a county court trial held on Tuesday February 21. Gloria Hansen of La Vernia had filed the charges.
Chief of Police Tony Griego says starting in March officers will visit residents with junked or abandoned cars. Abandoned vehicles harm property values invite vandalism and pose fire risks. Call Floresville Police Department for details and guidance on proper vehicle removal.
Floresville Lions Club held a barbecue chicken dinner to raise funds. The event yielded about 1400 dollars as Floresville Lions reported progress and the regional coordinator Tyler Thomas impressed members with his presentation.
