March 7 is the filing deadline for Flor esville city election with three alderman terms expiring in Places 3 4 and 5. Applications may be filed at city hall 8 AM to 4 30 PM or with the mayor after 4 30 PM. Absentee voting starts March 19 and ends April 3.
Lieberman's Department Stores and Winn's Stores in Floresville announce a First Anniversary Sale for their new Hwy 181 locations beginning Thursday March 1. Winn's reports 1978 net income of 4.812 million, up 20.3 percent from 1977, with earnings per share 3.80, sales 73.327 million. Blooming plans include openings of five to eight new stores in 1979 and remodels. Floresville celebrates two birthdays with a large Wilson County Courthouse Square gathering featuring Nellie Connally and John Connally Day proclamations, a 2000-signature petition, and performances by the Teltschik Band, with speeches on freedom and leadership.
Floresville Memorial Hospital offers childbirth and parenting classes for couples. Topics include stages of labor, medications, anesthesia, pregnancy changes, and baby care. Floresville Wiley Scale Auditorium will host the Wilson County Band Concert for Jr. High students this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Leland Schulz, head director at Pat Neff Middle School in San Antonio, leads the program with noted student success and inspiration.
Public School Week will be observed in Floresville during March 5 to 9, 1979. Parents, relatives, friends and citizens are invited to visit all campuses during the school day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on all campuses.
A meeting of the Poth VFW and the Poth VEW Ladies Auxiliary is set for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday March 7 at the VFW Hall in Poth. Members are urged to attend.
The American Heart Association seeks funds against cardiovascular disease with a festival at local venues. Ministers plan a wheel event in the jamboree and several community members are listed as honoring or aiding the effort. Salvation Army outreach invites donations during spring cleanup with truck routes advertised.
