Floresville merchants bought two prize Poland China hogs shown by Floresville FFA members Louis Jung and Nick Kolenda Jr at the San Antonio Livestock Show, paying 40 cents per pound and donating the barrows back to the Floresville FFA chapter. Ted Carney of Moorman Manufacturing coordinated donations and helped fund the purchase, with support from local businesses and the Floresville community.

Floresville Lions Club honored three Wilson County students at a Thursday luncheon for top prizes in the Wilson County Soil Conservation District essay contest. Winners were Margaret Stahl Denhawken first prize, Patricia Koepp La Vernia second, and Janice Orts Floresville third, each read aloud their essays on Youths Stake In Soil Conservation. The club endorsed Floresville Hospital bond elections and noted a chili supper netted about 70 dollars.

Red Cross Campaign Organized in Wilson County
The Wilson County Red Cross chapter launches a countywide fundraising drive from March 1 2 with chairmen named for Floresville Lodi Poth Kosciusko Sutherland Springs LaVernia Saspamco and more. Floresville kickoff is March 7 as committees form while farming communities donate directly to the county chapter. In 1956 the chapter disbursed 794.77 across servicemen families and needy grants with forty percent staying local and the rest funding national service projects. The 1957 quota for Wilson County is 2487.00.
