The Wilson County drive starts with a county quota of 2920 dollars for this year, far below last year's 7.2 million. Floresville opens the campaign today and hopes many school districts will meet their quotas early in March as county totals are listed.
Floresville PTA will launch the Red Cross Drive on Friday March 1 with ward chairmen named by Mrs Dick J Robberts president. Merchants Ward Mrs D R Voges Bank Ward Mrs Hal Butler Ballard Drug Ward Ms W Court House Ward Mrs J C Donaho. The drive aims to open and close the same day as in the past, with a Floresville quota of 605 dollars. Let us support the effort and go over the top on March First.
Sello Bros. 3 ring circus comes to Floresville for one day only on Thursday March 7. The show will exhibit on the old San Antonio and Stockdale junction lots with acts including elephants horses ponies dogs monkeys aerialists and clowns. Performance starts at 8 00 P M.
Floresville Baptists aim for a record turnout next Sunday with 200 in Sunday School and 100 in the B T U. The occasion ends the first year of Pastor Rev. Lewis Cocreham as the congregation plans to honor him.
Wilson County 4H Club boys staged their annual Livestock Show at Poth last Friday and Saturday drawing several hundred attendees. Despite a feed shortage reducing exhibitors, calves hogs turkeys and capons were of excellent quality all raised and fed by club members. The show took place at Kolodziej Produce Co. with judging by County Agent Dale Freiberger of Atascosa County whose decisions were well received.
Director, Production and Marketing Administration urged Texas housewives not to hoard flour supplies. He said there is no real shortage and buying extra amounts now could expose stored flour to weevils and spoilage. Households should use current stocks and buy only what is needed.
Floresville School Band will host a public rehearsal at the high school auditorium next week. Director Fritz will lead the event with guest director Mr. Leach of Houston guiding the rehearsal. Admission is free and open to all interestd community members. The exact date will be announced later by the school.
A Saturday afternoon ceremony in Wilson County marked the groundbreaking for the new county library at the north corner of Shawn. Key figures included R A Wiseman Jr, H B Jackson, and R L Eschenburg, who donated 5000 dollars to fund the project. Director Fritz Teltschik led the school band as crowds praised the library’s growth and its impact on local citizenship.
W A Lorenz 80 longtime Wilson County citizen died at his Stockdale home on February 7. He was a pioneer cotton buyer and gin operator in the area and helped build the local economy. He married Lenora Smith in 1888 and lived near Pandora before moving to Stockdale where he ran gins at multiple sites and operated a feed store. His funeral drew many friends.
A F Toman of Path Justice of the Peace Precinct No 8 announces re election bid at the July primary. He cites three terms in office and seeks voter support based on his record of service and efficiency.
A lively gathering at the White House Cafe drew fifty five business and civic leaders to pledge united support for a re formed Floresville Chamber of Commerce. L F Spruce chaired the event praising attendance and speakers RL Eschenburg County Agent W J Moore and A D Richardson outlined reconversion farm and civic programs stressing school gym demand and a sane cotton production plan to boost local agriculture and economic development.
The Floresville P T A met in the Homemaking Cottage Thursday afternoon February 21 1946 at 8 45 o clock for a colorful Founders Day celebration led by local members and families.
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Overton 75 died at her Floresville home February 21 1946 at 6 20 p m after years of declining health Funeral services were held at Murray Funeral Home Floresville Friday at 5 o clock with burial in Floresville cemetery Rev Lewis R Cocreham Baptist pastor conducted the rites Pallbearers were J N Anderson Lee Smith Jesse Smith E F Woolsey Jr W E Smith and J P Woolsey She was born February 19 1871 in Lavaca County to Henry P Smith and Mary Lawrence Smith She married Alfred Overton in Lavaca County and they lived there several years before moving to Wilson County in 1906 The family lived in Wilson County for many years they had no children and later comments refer to community activities and local PTA involvement
