Fatal car pickup collision claims 16 year old girl

A Sunday morning crash about eight miles north on Highway 181 killed Karen Colleen Hunt, 16, of Tuleto, who died on arrival at Memorial Hospital Floresville. Injured were Jerry L. Brown, 16, and Rodney B. Gill, 19, both of Kenedy. driver Cecil Allen L. Brown unhurt. pickup driver Richard Flores Borrego of San Antonio had only a skinned knee. Patrolman D L Sanford noted the victim appeared asleep in the rear seat. the pickup was reportedly on the wrong side of the road. The southbound car carried two youths toward Kenedy. Borrego's northbound pickup headed toward San Antonio. Deputies Fred Garcia, Mike Lopez aided. Rudy Rodriguez handled radio calls for ambulance and wrecker service.

Peanut Festival Queen Nominee Featured in Luling Thump

The Floresville Chronicle-Journal reports Miss Sally Bruce as a Peanut Festival nominee and Miss Bruce will represent the festival at out of town events during the Watermelon Thump coronation night June 30 at Eagle Field in Luling. Sally, a Floresville High School graduate, attends San Antonio Community College and is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Jack Bruce. Tommy Ortmann, son of Mr and Mrs Leonard Ortmann, will escort her. A U S Senator Ralph W Yarborough announced a grant of 13906 to fund anti poverty program administration for Atascosa Wilson and Karnes counties for five months. The grant was approved by the Office of Economic Opportunity.

Seguin Texas July 4th Festivities Highlight Weeklong Events

Seguin plans a four day celebration starting July 1 with Melodrama at Texas Theatre and Miss South Texas Pageant at Texas Lutheran College. Activities include a rodeo July 3 at 8 pm, flag raising July 4 at 9 am, downtown parade at 10 am, a 3 pm baseball game, Miss South Texas finals, another rodeo at 8 pm, and a 9 pm fireworks show at Stercke Park.

A pair of freakish winds last Saturday afternoon lifted the tin roof rafters and posts of a small cow shed and set them down a short distance away, intact, in the bows incident near the location.

Twenty two young women from South Texas join the program staying at the Gints Dorm Texas Lutheran College for a three day schedule. Miss Floresville Shara Teltschik competes as Miss America Preliminary to Miss Texas when she is eighteen. Miss Johns competes in talent evening gown and swimsuit during the event. Guest Susan Kay Logan Miss Texas will appear. Logan was a Miss America pageant semifinalist in Atlantic City last year. Talent and evening gown contests are Monday night. Finals and swimsuit phase take place July 4 at Max Starcke Park starting at five p.m. open to the public.
