Floresville chamber announces C. L. Crutchfield as president of the 14th annual Peanut Festival to be held in Floresville on Thursday and Friday October 11 and 12. The Floresville Chamber board met at the courthouse Tuesday night with President John W. Donaho presiding.
Floresville board confirms the 14th Annual Floresville Peanut Festival to be held Friday and Saturday October 11-12. O L Crutchfield elected president with Carroll Buchhorn as vice president. Donaho urges full community support and announces forthcoming committee appointments. Citizens urged to save the dates and inform relatives.
The U S Civil Service Commission announces an examination for substitute clerk carrier at Floresville Post. Rate set at 1.82 per hour. Further information and applications are available from the Floresville post office.
All stores in Floresville and Poth will be closed all day Thursday July 4 due to the holiday. Local merchants announce the one day closure affecting shopping hours and services.
Floresville officials led by President John V. Donaho and past president O. L. Crutchfield earned praise for Floresville’s strong showing at the Stockdale Watermelon Jubilee last Saturday. Barbara Ware, daughter of Mr and Mrs Lowe Ware, was crowned queen of the 14th Annual Stockdale Watermelon Jubilee held Saturday before a large crowd. The colorful parade kicked off the event, drawing residents and visitors to a festive community celebration.
P H Cox of Floresville, county supervisor for the Farmers Home Administration, receives an Outstanding rating from the FHA Washington office for the year ending March 1 1957. He has served since 1945 in Wilson and Karnes counties and earlier in Bastrop. The Floresville Chamber urges downtown parking reform to ease access for customers, with plans to form ward committees and involve city officials in cleaning alleys and rear spaces.
Mrs. C. B. Palmer, 76, longtime Loire pioneer in Atascosa County, died Monday June 24 at 5 PM. Solemn high mass was held at St. Luke's Church, Loire, with Interment in St. Luke's Cemetery. Survived by two daughters Enid and Palmer, four sons Cornelius George Wilbur Elmer, several siblings. Husband preceded her in death.
Miss Margaret Mitchell of Brownsville is the new Home Demonstration Agent for Wilson County. She was elected to this position by the county commissioners.
Mr. Phylom H. Cox of Floresville Texas is recommended without reservation for an Outstanding rating for the year ending March 31 1957 based on the overall excellence of his performance. He has a record of exemplary service as a county official.
A cordial visit occurred with Miss Mitchell present on Monday accompanied by Miss Anta Marie Placke Guadalupe County H D Agent, formerly Wilson County. The occasion drew cooperation from local residents and officials.
Floresville launches a countywide memorial hospital fund drive to secure 75000 within 75 days to qualify for a 200000 federal grant under Hill Burton. Approx 18000 raised so far from 29 donors and organizations as committees organize statewide fundraising, with bond funds already approved.
Lavernia hosts a July Fourth celebration with a total of 1000 dollars in cash prizes to benefit community projects via the Chamber of Commerce. The event features a noon and evening barbecue, a Jimmy Martin Orchestra dance at the Chamber hall, and a family style all you can eat dinner and supper from 11:30 to 5:00.
