Funeral Held For W A Coughran Pioneer Stockman

Funeral services for W A Coughran, long time Wilson County resident and pioneer stockman, were held Saturday afternoon at Noresville Methodist Church. Interment followed in Floresville cemetery. Born December 20 1857 in Arkansas, he moved to Texas, worked cattle with brother T B Coughran, and is remembered as a beloved churchman and civic figure. He died June 21 1985 in San Antonio after living in Atascosa County. He left wife Ming Pocahontas Ormond and two children, Lee Dow Coughran (deceased) and Mildred Coughran.

Floresville Motors Hosts Independent Garage Men Meeting

Floresville Motor Co local Ford dealers hosted about 24 independent garage men from Path Camp Ranch and nearby areas. Hosts Bill Riemenschneider and Fritz Nitschmann led a forerunner gathering featuring two brake adjustment sound films and a tour of the parts department as plans for future instructional meetings unfold. Wilson County wins CCC Soil Erosion Camp with Floresville slated to host, announced via Congressman Kleberg and officials in Washington. Officials foresee early site selection and six to eight weeks before operation, with county agents and chamber leaders coordinating to leverage the camp's countywide benefits for Wilson farmers.

Auto accident on Stockdale highway causes injuries

Near serious crash occurred Monday near the Ullmann place outside town. Miss Kinsey drove a car with Miss Donaho on the running board as they tried to pass a watermelon truck bound for Floresville. Kinsey reportedly braked then accelerated, the car swerved into a tree. Donaho was thrown 30 feet away but uninjured. Kinsey and Cryer sustained facial and body injuries. Kinsey with a fractured knee. Car badly wrecked. miraculous escape from fatal outcome.

Wilson County To Be Represented At Statewide Cotton Meeting

Wilson County will be represented at a statewide cotton meeting in Dallas on Monday July 1. The event is issued by a joint committee of the Texas House and Senate and is open to all cotton producers and interested persons. The meeting will be held at the Baker Hotel with Cully A Cobb of the U S Department of Agriculture and the State Cotton Advisory Committee in attendance.

Texas Board Sets 17 1/2 Per Capita School Aid For 1935 36

Austin June 25 The board of education set a per capita apportionment of 17 1/2 dollars the statutory maximum for about 1 600 000 pupils for 1935 36. Augmented by special levies and school funds it expects a cash balance of 2 500 000 by August 31. The 17 1/2 rate would yield 28 000 000 state funds to schools plus 5 000 000 rural aid the largest amount ever. Officials urged early decision to aid projects funded by relief labor.

Floresville Boy Dies While Visiting Aunt in Bishop

Floresville six year old boy, Richard Boyd Herring, died at his aunt Mrs M D Lynam home in Bishop Texas at 5 p m Thursday June 20 1935 after a five hour illness. He was visiting relatives and passed away before his bedside. Interment was in Marcelona cemetery Friday at 3 p m Rev Tankersley of Floresville Tabernacle officiating. Survived by parents two brothers Harold and Walter Dan a sister Ola Lee and many relatives. The father works for San Antonio Public Service. The Chronicle-Journal extends heartfelt sympathy.

107 year old Mrs Fatama North buried in Stockdale Texas

June 26 report notes Mrs Fatama North aged 107 buried last Sunday in Stockdale Texas. Born in Kentucky in 1827 she moved to Texas as a young woman and was survived by four of eight children Tom North Bandera Cab George North San Antonio and Mrs Davie Tumitzison San Antonio. She had lived with granddaughter De Homer Reed in this county for three years.

Commissioners Court In Special Session Receives Auditors Report

The commissioners court in Houston met in special session to receive a four year county audit. The court unanimously approved paying auditors 1111.54 to date, total audit costs around 4400.00. About 40 people attended as the report was read and discussed before adjournment.

Sutherland Springs Fourth of July Family Outing Planned

Wilson county residents and visitors come to Sutherland Springs for a longstanding July 4 celebration. W D Griffith and wife plus son Shirley run the park and pool for the summer and plan a day of old fashioned barbecue sandwiches hamburgers and cold drinks. Bathing and a baseball game precede a night dance featuring Bill and His Merrymakers. A large crowd is expected with many reunions planned at this historic gathering spot.

Runge Business Men Boost July 4 Celebration

Runge business leaders arrived in Floresville by caravan at 4 p m on a booster trip for Floresville s July 4th celebration. The 15 piece Fireman s Band played on the courthouse square as literature and announcements were distributed for the fourth annual Range Fire Department event. The program includes a free baseball game between Range and Nixon a noon barbecue and sausage dinner a rodeo a band concert and a fly contest with semi pro competitors.

July Fourth Closures Noted for Floresville Path Stores

All Floresville and Path stores will close all day on Thursday July 4 a national holiday. Other county towns are expected to close as well with Sutherland Springs hosting the sole county celebration featuring an old style dance at night.
