Family Land Heritage honors 100-year land ties in Wilson County

The Texas Department of Agriculture will honor farm and ranch families in Wilson County whose land has stayed in a single family since 1874 or earlier under the Family Land Heritage Program. Eligible families must own at least 10 acres producing $50 or more in agricultural products, maintain continuous family ownership, and be certified by Judge D Richard Voges. Applications are via Commissioner White, and those qualifying by August 31 will be recognized at the State Fair with a history published in a land heritage directory. Local recognition will follow.

First City National Bank of Floresville Names Two New Directors

Dr. Sam A Nixon M D and W Curtis Ray elected as directors of First City National Bank of Floresville in a board action announced by Chairman Fredrick Erck. Nixon and wife Elizabeth have lived in Floresville 12 years with church civic ties including Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce. Ray and wife Joan Lee are lifelong Floresville residents. Ray is a dairy farmer involved in Texas Flying Farmers and serves as President of the Floresville School Board and active in the Baptist Church.

Mobile X Ray Unit Comes to Wilson County Hosts

The American Lung Association Alamo Area brings a Mobile X Ray Unit to Wilson County with registration volunteers aiding residents 15 and older. In Stockdale the unit will be at City Hall on July 2 from 11 00 AM to 1 00 PM and 2 00 PM to 6 00 PM. A La Vernia stop follows July 3 at La Vernia TV and Appliance with similar hours.

Farmers Prepare for 1974 Census of Agriculture

Farmers and ranchers are urged to maintain precise records for the 1974 Census of Agriculture, with forms arriving by mail in January 1975. The Bureau will collect details on cropland, crops, livestock, labor, expenditures, land use, and farm income, using two form types based on sales. Reports are confidential by federal law and used only for statistics.

Final date to certify July 15 for peanut crop programs

Farmers who have not certified their crop acreages or filed intent to participate must do so by July 15 or before harvest. Certification affects disaster and deficiency payments and a peanut quota penalty if miscertified. The Wilson County ASCS Office will be closed July 4 for Independence Day.

Lone Star Cystic Fibrosis Chapter Breath of Life Campaign

Mrs. Kerry Reavis is named chairman of the Breath of Life Campaign by Lone Star Chapter leaders to raise funds for cystic fibrosis research and child lung care in Floresville and surrounding areas. The effort supports research on carrier testing as National Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation funds seek practical screening.

Girl Crisanta Garza Leads Green Team Home Run Feat

Crisanta Garza 14, of Team 2 the Green Team coached by Mrs Nash Martinez, hit the first girl’s home run at E A Flieller Little League Park. She has four more homers and was presented a softball on Friday June 21 by Mr Lilly Martinez after their last game. Team remains undefeated.

Local sales duo receive awards in Houston event

Ray Palmer and Phil Christa spent the weekend in Houston for a Make-up Class and met Southeast District Manager Vivian Woodard. Palmer received two awards a gold pin for Achievement and a $100 Finders Fee check.

Effective Monday July 1 1974 subscription rates rise in multiple Texas counties to five dollars and twenty five cents per year tax included with higher rates elsewhere plus reduced single copies. Continental Telephone Of Texas Work Near Completion

Continental Telephone of Texas announces nearing completion of a 6683400 project in Floresville featuring a new central office building dial switching and toll equipment. Changeover to the new system is planned for September 1974 with some Floresville numbers altered and seven digit dialing required. Direct Distance Dialing will allow self dialing for long distance calls. Customers with number changes will receive further notices before use.

Peanut Festival Coronation Plans for 1974 Held

The Peanut Festival Coronation Committee for the 1974 season selects Court of Our Farming Heritage as the theme and schedules the coronation for October 11 1974.
