Wright resigns as Wilson County Democratic chairman

Wilson County Democratic Executive Committee met at Floresville courthouse on June 21 with Elmo Wright resigning as county party chair, Edgar Fisbeck elected temporary chair for 1948, and a filing fee schedule set for candidates. The body listed numerous candidate applications for offices, with deadlines and fees, to appear on the July 24 primary ballot.

Marcelina Baptist Revival Opens Homecoming at Marcelina Church

Rev Frank Cox leads a revival at Marcelina Baptist Church from Friday June 18 through Sunday June 27 with nightly 8 pm services and Sunday 11 am sermons. Special singing directed by Rev Buddy Upchurch and a watermelon feast after tonight’s service. Homecoming Sunday will bring former members from afar to attend.

Floresville High forms Athletic Association with 107 members

The Floresville High School Athletic Association announces 107 new paid members after a campaign led by Dr. E R Shedden. Officers elected for the year are Leo Spruce president, A J Neumayer first vice president, Morris Johnson second vice president, and W A Bump secretary treasurer. Directors named include A C Eschenburg, Sam Fore Jr, Edwin Johnson, Bart Masters, Robert F Spruce, Zane Lawdon, and Supt. Floyd Schiewitz. The group discusses building grandstand seats at Tiger Field with a plan to inspect Harlandale High School bleachers in San Antonio.

The Floresville Eagles meet the Nixon Tigers Sunday June 27 at 8 30 P M in B A Jimenez Park Floresville in a scheduled city game featuring local teams and a late evening kickoff.

McDaniel Reports Real Estate Deals

Chas H McDaniel, local real estate dealer, says he closed sales of three new Floresville homes near the Kuban property to G M Hagan, Jack Schroller, and M M Mills. Mills sold his former home beside Mrs May Glass to Mrs C A Waldie. He also reports selling the Doyle Walston home and a four acre chicken farm at Suterland Springs to Miss Carrie Lockhart of San Antonio, in which Walston bought Miss Lockhart's San Antonio home.

District Court In Session This Week Murder Case Is Set

Floresville court reconvened Monday morning with Judge H. D. Sparrow presiding. Civil case Len. Regramer vs Hileman on trespass to title and damages led to a verdict for the defendant. S. W. Seale vs Agnes Burrows heard. Julia Garcia adoption petition granted. several divorce suits heard. State of Texas vs Ben Montoya murder case set for next Monday June 28 with a special venire of 75 men ordered.

Kerrville Rodeo Promises Big Southwest Crowds

Kerrville plans the 14th annual Southwest rodeo at Antler Field starting June 30. The Kerrville Junior Chamber of Commerce hosts four days of events with parades fireworks a rodeo queen coronation and dances. Cowboys from across the nation compete for 3700 added money along with acts from Dallas Fort Worth Hollywood Cody and Vernon including the Mounted Quadrille trick roping and clowning.

Heavy melon and pea receipts persist despite price drop

Up to Thursday Floresville shipped 129 carloads of watermelons as heat cuts yields and lowers prices. Truck shipments remain heavy with state and out of state drivers present. Black-eyed pea shipments stay strong after a large price drop, with buyers processing about 1,500,000 pounds and sourcing from many Southwest Texas counties.

In San Antonio the Union Stockyards paid a record price for commercially fed steers to Simmons and Perry of Corpus Christi. The sale featured ted steers averaging 948 pounds.

Elmo Wright of Floresville and Stockdale, a businessman and livestock raiser, filed his candidacy for Wilson County Clerk under the Democratic primary on July 24. He announced from Floresville, stating lifelong residence and qualification, asking voters to consider his first bid for public office.
