Stockdale Watermelon Jubilee Parade Marshals Lead Big Event

Thousands packed Stockdale streets on June 19 for the Twenty-First Watermelon Jubilee parade led by Mr and Mrs Sam Fore of Floresville as parade marshals. Local and regional officials rode or watched as hundreds of entries competed in four divisions with Bluebonnet Club Stockdale and Hochheim Prairie Insurance among top winners.

City Election Tuesday Sets Mayor Vote for June

E A Fueller longtime Filor esville business leader and city alderman, serving as Mayor Pro Tem since Mayor Woolsey died, is the sole mayoral candidate on the ballot after filing closed. Polls open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Next Tuesday’s vote aims to elect a new city alderman later, possibly July 1, 1965.

Town to Be Closed for Holidays in Floresville

Floresville officials announced city offices will close on July 6 for a holiday with the fourth of July falling on a Sunday this year. The City Council set other holiday dates: September 6 for Labor Day, November 11 Armistice Day, November 25 Thanksgiving, December 25 Christmas, and January 1 1966 New Year’s Day.

Floresville School District Receives $12,915 In Funds

Open House at Stockdale Nursing Home Adds 14 Beds

Stockdale Nursing Home invites the public to Sunday Open House from 1 to 5 p.m. to view a new 14 bed addition and renovated facilities. The home now offers 44 bed capacity with private and semi private rooms. Owners Mr and Mrs B G Belcher state the facility has operated 18 months as a State Approved Institution with a Registered Nurse supervisor.

Funeral Services Held For Marcelino Morales

Funeral services for Marcelino Morales 77 of Falls City were held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Falls City. Burial followed in Falls City Latin American Cemetery. Survivors include a sister Leonor Ramirez and brothers Juan Morales and E L Morales plus many nephews and nieces.

Drowning Victim Mazac Funeral Rites Held Here

Funeral rites for Paul Joseph Mazac of Floresville who drowned June 19 1965 in the San Antonio River were held in Floresville. Rosary was said at Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel with a Requiem Mass at Sacred Heart Church conducted by Rev. Virgil Elizondo. Burial followed at Sacred Heart. Mazac, born June 30 1904 in Taylor Texas, lived in Wilson County since age 16. He worked for the Highway Department for over 28 years, leaving a wife Albina and children Lucille Robert and Victor plus siblings and extended family as survivors.

Baird Rites Held for San Antonio Veteran at National Cemetery

Norman T. Baird 45 of 815 E Formosa Blvd San Antonio died Friday June 18 in a San Antonio Hospital. WWII veteran and Pentecostal Church member. Survived by wife Carrie Baird sons Norman Jr James A Baird daughter Linda Kay Baird mother Mamie Baird brothers Carrol A Baird Flores Baird and Tommy G Charlotte Voges. Services were Tuesday June 22 at 1 PM at Southside Funeral Home Chapel with Military Service and interment at National Cemetery Ft Sam Houston.

Atascosa Award Presented to Milton Palmer for comeback farmer
