Floresville Man Dies In One Car Crash Near Saspamico
Richard G. Zavala of Floresville died in a Sunday early morning crash when his car hit a tree on the Old Corpus Christi Highway. Police say he was intoxicated and speeding, left the roadway, and was ejected after the vehicle split apart near a culvert. The 29 year old was pronounced dead at the scene.

21 Year Old Sentenced To 99 Years In Murder Trial
Joe Raymond Salas, age 21, was found guilty of murder in the August 31 1991 stabbing in Floresville. He received a 99 year prison term and will be eligible for parole in 15 years. Two co-defendants faces trials. Camarillo charged with kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault. Floresville police praised officers for the investigation.

Two Poth High School students, Greg Koch and Brian Waclawczyk, earned First Division ratings to qualify for the All State Solo and Ensemble Contest in Austin. Brian, a junior, played Mozart Sonatina movements on trombone with Paula White of Austin as accompanist and received a Second Division Silver Medal. Greg, a graduating senior, performed Handel's Where’er You Walk as a baritone with Paul White, earning a First Division Gold Medal and planning to join Austin College’s A Cappella choir next year.
