City warns of vandalized street signs in Floresville

The City Council of Floresville warns residents after stop signs and street markers were pulled down or damaged. Parents are alerted to arrest anyone in the act, with violators to be prosecuted. Passed at a June 3 1965 meeting.

Floresville school board elected Bill Culver of Dimmit Texas as head football coach at Floresville High School to succeed Jack Taylor who moves to Culpepper. Culver a Seguin graduate and former TCU Horned Frogs player coached Dimmit to two state appearances and has six years of coaching experience. He and his wife plan to relocate within weeks.

Texas Boys State Opens With Record Junior Attendees

Austin hosts the 1965 American Legion Boys State from June 5 to 12 at the University campus. About 750 high school junior boys from B State will participate, sponsored by The American Legion, Department of Texas under Lewis W. Emerich.

County Eyes Another Million Dollar Black Eyed Pea Crop

Wilson county farmers, despite damaging weather, expect a new million dollar black eyed pea harvest. Floresville shipped 200,000 pounds by Tuesday with buyers paying 24.4 cents per pound in the field. Local reps include Emery Keller, J. C. Bartee, C. C. McMullen, and Troy Tulley. L. H. Holmes, Joe A. Estrada, and Floresville scales operator. Stockdale and La Vernia anticipate shipments as fair weather could boost early yields.

Revival Time at Marcelina Church Starts June 13

An old fashioned revival at Marcelina Baptist Church runs June 13 through June 2 with Evangelist James M. Dawson of Range Texas. Song service led by Tommy O Bryant of Har. Floresville youth recreation organized at new school grounds

The Floresville community oversees extensive youth recreation at the newly built Floresville School grounds. Superintendent W Seale, Sam Strozier, principals and teachers helped launch the program. Seventeen teams, including hardball and softball, are formed with captains and sponsors. A full schedule of games will appear soon.

LULAC Council No 254 of Floresville will host a District 15 meeting Sunday at 1:00 PM at Impala Night Club. Delegates from several towns including San Antonio will attend. Tour of Bexar County Dairy Day Set for June 10

Dairymen received a letter about a Dairy Field Day and Tour at Knowlton Dairy Farm in Bexar County. The Field Day, held Thursday, June 10, will include a program and tours with directions via US Highway 8 and Interstate 28 just past Von Ormy, San Antonio.

Sam L. Fere Named McAllen District Methodist Superintendent

Weslaco pastor Rev. Sam L. Fere has been named superintendent of the McAllen District of the Methodist Church, replacing Dr. R. F. Curl who moves to the San Antonio District. Fere may keep Weslaco headquarters as the town opens a 3.5 million Wesley Manor retirement home. The Library sponsors a summer State Reading Contest, June 1 to August 31, for grades 1 through 8. 12 books on grade level earn a State Reading Certificate. David and Kent Johnson, early readers, have completed requirements and are sons of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Johnson.

Floresville Awards Paving Contract To San Antonio Firm

The Floresville City Council awarded Colglazier Construction Co. of San Antonio a $64,225 contract to repave and curb four main business blocks and five blocks of C Street. Work will start within 30 days and finish in 90 working days, with Collins Engineering Co. handling plans. Other bids: Schwope Inc. $89,000 and J S Brown Co. $71,650. State plans include repaving on State Highway 181 near the north city limits.

4H Vegetable Show Results at American Legion Hall

The 4H Vegetable Show held Saturday June 5 at the American Legion Hall drew twenty four participants showcasing seventeen types of vegetables. Rain forced a change of venue while Judge Kenneth Hoffman praised improved quality and prep versus last year. Hoffman awarded places, with a prize-winners list to follow next week.

Timberlake, L. L., Dies in Austin at 67

Lewis Leon Timberlake, 67, of Austin, died May 27 in Austin. Born July 6, 1897, in Floresville, he lived in Austin for years. He married Cecile Fuller July 3, 1937, in Austin. Survived by widow, two sons in California, a Austin stepdaughter and two California stepsons, three brothers D. L. Timberlake of Uvalde W. A. of La Pryor and W. T. of San Antonio, one sister Mrs. Vernon Perry of Del Rio, several nieces and nephews. Funeral at 3 p.m. Saturday at Frazar Chapel. Rev. Milton Bohmfalk officiated. Interment Uvalde cemetery. Death claims Mrs Kosarek of Poth in 1965

Mrs. William Kosarek of Poth died in Memorial Hospital Flor esville at 12 20 p m Thursday June 3 1965 after a nine day illness at age 53 years 9 months and 18 days. Her body lay in state at Winyard Funeral Home Chapel until June 6 then services were held at St John s Lutheran Church Poth with Dr Otto R Schawe officiating. Interment followed at St John s Cemetery. She was born August 15 1911 in Prague Oklahoma and moved to Wilson County as a child. She married William Kosarek on June 1 1935 and was a member of St John s Lutheran Ladies Aid and the P T A. Surviving are her husband two daughters Betty Jean Gene McChristy of Corpus Christi and Beverly Kosarek of Poth a son Willie Bob Kosarek in the U S Air Force three grandchildren four sisters and four brothers.
