The City Council of Floresville warns residents after stop signs and street markers were pulled down or damaged. Parents are alerted to arrest anyone in the act, with violators to be prosecuted. Passed at a June 3 1965 meeting.
Floresville school board elected Bill Culver of Dimmit Texas as head football coach at Floresville High School to succeed Jack Taylor who moves to Culpepper. Culver a Seguin graduate and former TCU Horned Frogs player coached Dimmit to two state appearances and has six years of coaching experience. He and his wife plan to relocate within weeks.
Austin hosts the 1965 American Legion Boys State from June 5 to 12 at the University campus. About 750 high school junior boys from B State will participate, sponsored by The American Legion, Department of Texas under Lewis W. Emerich.
Cemetery Association will meet this coming Friday June 11 to discuss maintenance plans and upcoming plots. Members are urged to attend at the usual meeting hall for the latest updates and vote on proposed expenditures.
Wilson county farmers, despite damaging weather, expect a new million dollar black eyed pea harvest. Floresville shipped 200,000 pounds by Tuesday with buyers paying 24.4 cents per pound in the field. Local reps include Emery Keller, J. C. Bartee, C. C. McMullen, and Troy Tulley. L. H. Holmes, Joe A. Estrada, and Floresville scales operator. Stockdale and La Vernia anticipate shipments as fair weather could boost early yields.
Miss Mary Ann Moore daughter of Mrs A O Moore Floresville will represent the Floresville Chamber of Commerce in the fourth annual Homecoming Rodeo and Parade at Lockhart on Saturday morning June 12.
Mr and Mrs Albert Siamae and Mr and Mrs George Pains travel to Ren Raha for a social visit. The event highlights family ties and local community ties as they share greetings and news.
Mr and Mrs J D Flores Jr and daughters Carol and Susan flew Braniff from San Antonio last week to attend graduation exercises of their son Nash Flores III. The commencement address was given by McGeorge Bundy. Nash arrived home by bus Wednesday morning while his parents returned by Braniff Monday afternoon.
An old fashioned revival at Marcelina Baptist Church runs June 13 through June 2 with Evangelist James M. Dawson of Range Texas. Song service led by Tommy O Bryant of Har. Evening meeting begins at 7 and 7 30 PM. Pastor Dempsey Simmons and the church urge prayers for a true Marcelina community revival.
The Floresville community oversees extensive youth recreation at the newly built Floresville School grounds. Superintendent W Seale, Sam Strozier, principals and teachers helped launch the program. Seventeen teams, including hardball and softball, are formed with captains and sponsors. A full schedule of games will appear soon.
LULAC Council No 254 of Floresville will host a District 15 meeting Sunday at 1:00 PM at Impala Night Club. Delegates from several towns including San Antonio will attend. Junior Councils will send representatives. Invited guests include Mayas Pro Tem E A Flieller Millikin Toscano and Rev Virgil Elizondo of Sacred Heart Church as speakers.
Miss Margie Roemer represented the Poth Hermann Sons Lodge and its sister lodge at the Hermann Sons Diamond Jubilee in Shiner on May 16. She led the lodges in a 2:00 p.m. parade with escort Richard Jenkins of Poth, as attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Roe mer, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Flieller, Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Fis beck.
Mrs Edwin E Bravenec received a Master Degree in Education at the University of Houston during commencement on June 4. She teaches in the Pasadena School System and is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Adolph Miculka of Floresville Texas.
Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Sandberg of Irving visited his mother Mrs. Evelyn Williams over the weekend. They also attended the Annual Southwest Texas Methodist Conference held in San Antonio last week Thursday through Sunday.
Dairymen received a letter about a Dairy Field Day and Tour at Knowlton Dairy Farm in Bexar County. The Field Day, held Thursday, June 10, will include a program and tours with directions via US Highway 8 and Interstate 28 just past Von Ormy, San Antonio.
Weslaco pastor Rev. Sam L. Fere has been named superintendent of the McAllen District of the Methodist Church, replacing Dr. R. F. Curl who moves to the San Antonio District. Fere may keep Weslaco headquarters as the town opens a 3.5 million Wesley Manor retirement home. The Library sponsors a summer State Reading Contest, June 1 to August 31, for grades 1 through 8. 12 books on grade level earn a State Reading Certificate. David and Kent Johnson, early readers, have completed requirements and are sons of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Johnson.
Two Sundays of scores show Saspamco Red Sox 3 Kosciusko. Saspamco Pipers 8 at Kosciusko and 21 to 0 over Floresville Cubs, plus other games postponed. Kenedy, Cestohona, Karnes City, Poth, Floresville matches noted with rained out status.
May rainfall totaled 7.85 inches with daily totals on May 9 1.50, May 11 1.50, May 14 0.25, May 17 1.40, May 18 1.60, May 19 0.90, and May 30 0.56 inches. The warmest day was May 28 at 91 degrees, the coolest May day May 1 at 48. Average maximum 84 degrees and average minimum 67 degrees.
The Floresville City Council awarded Colglazier Construction Co. of San Antonio a $64,225 contract to repave and curb four main business blocks and five blocks of C Street. Work will start within 30 days and finish in 90 working days, with Collins Engineering Co. handling plans. Other bids: Schwope Inc. $89,000 and J S Brown Co. $71,650. State plans include repaving on State Highway 181 near the north city limits.
The 4H Vegetable Show held Saturday June 5 at the American Legion Hall drew twenty four participants showcasing seventeen types of vegetables. Rain forced a change of venue while Judge Kenneth Hoffman praised improved quality and prep versus last year. Hoffman awarded places, with a prize-winners list to follow next week.
The Floresville Methodist Youth Fellowship honored four graduating seniors with a swimming party at Starcke Park in Seguin Jeeggli Jimmy Lawdon Gary Mayes and Gene Witten. Twenty six youths attended the event and returned later in the evening.

The Area VII FFA Association selected 93 Future Farmers from its 4,500 members to receive the Lone Star Farmer Degree at the 1st Annual Convention held June 1, 1965, at the St. Anthony Hotel in San Antonio. State approval will follow at the June State Committee meeting.

Lewis Leon Timberlake, 67, of Austin, died May 27 in Austin. Born July 6, 1897, in Floresville, he lived in Austin for years. He married Cecile Fuller July 3, 1937, in Austin. Survived by widow, two sons in California, a Austin stepdaughter and two California stepsons, three brothers D. L. Timberlake of Uvalde W. A. of La Pryor and W. T. of San Antonio, one sister Mrs. Vernon Perry of Del Rio, several nieces and nephews. Funeral at 3 p.m. Saturday at Frazar Chapel. Rev. Milton Bohmfalk officiated. Interment Uvalde cemetery. Pallbearers: Howard Watson Herbert Willie A. A. Moss Jimmie Beckett Tommy Smith John Monagin.
Mrs. William Kosarek of Poth died in Memorial Hospital Flor esville at 12 20 p m Thursday June 3 1965 after a nine day illness at age 53 years 9 months and 18 days. Her body lay in state at Winyard Funeral Home Chapel until June 6 then services were held at St John s Lutheran Church Poth with Dr Otto R Schawe officiating. Interment followed at St John s Cemetery. She was born August 15 1911 in Prague Oklahoma and moved to Wilson County as a child. She married William Kosarek on June 1 1935 and was a member of St John s Lutheran Ladies Aid and the P T A. Surviving are her husband two daughters Betty Jean Gene McChristy of Corpus Christi and Beverly Kosarek of Poth a son Willie Bob Kosarek in the U S Air Force three grandchildren four sisters and four brothers.
Mrs. A C Eschenburg attended the graduation exercises of her niece Miss Frances Yeary in Dallas on June 1. Miss Yeary returned to Floresville with her aunt last week. Mrs P C H McDaniel, who urged the visit, also returned home at that time.
Mrs. H. W. Tobias departed Monday for Kansas City for personal travel. She plans to visit relatives and attend engagements while away from home.
