District Judge S B Carr of the 81st district on Saturday refused a new trial motion for Jesus Herrera. Attorney F C Canfield filed notice of appeal. Herrera, 48, a farm laborer, was convicted in district court on May 30 for the attack slaying of 12 year old Lavernia schoolgirl Hope Elizondo on May 20. Ten days after commitment he was sentenced to the electric chair by a Wilson county jury.

Final Work On State Highway No 97 Is Being Rushed
Mr and Mrs A Parks have leased the bathing pool at Sutherland Springs from the Williams estate and opened it for the summer. The pool has been cleaned and new lights with large reflectors added plus improvements to the pool and bath house. It will stay open nightly until 10 o clock all summer. Wilson county residents and visitors are expected to enjoy the health resort and picnics under the oaks. A new cold drink stand near the pool will operate with the same hours as swimming.
