The Floresville Independent School District board announces a bond and tax rate vote following the consolidation of Floresville and Sutherland Springs schools. The final step of the merger is scheduled for Saturday, August 7, as the districts unite under the Floresville Consolidated ISD.
Tomorrow is the last day to transfer school children in the Floresville and Sutherland Springs consolidation. Attend today or tomorrow or leave transfers with the County Superintendent. The district debt and tax rate details follow the vote plan, with the election set at Floresville City Hall and Sutherland Springs School House.
Three community ladies were nominated as candidates for Queen of the Floresville Peanut Festival to be held in September. Voting began with four city ballot sites showing Betty Jean Johnson leading at 353 votes, followed by Bernice Flieller at 348 and Rose Marie Raska at 249. Each penny vote is placed in a container at the participating stores Ballard Drug J C Merchants Clay's Red White and Smiths Drug Store. Further voting venues will be announced.
Vote totals show standing tied at 529 each for incumbent Wm O Hoelscher and challenger Alfred Bednars in Precinct 2. Precinct 2 boxes Poth Kosciusko Three Oaks Kasper report 529 apiece after Saturday’s voting. runoff likely August 28 per Democratic Executive Committee.
The Democratic County Convention gathers at the Wilson county courthouse at 2 o clock Saturday afternoon July 81 with Acting County Chairman Edgar Fishbeck presiding. Precincts late reported only three conventions held last Saturday Path Sutherland Springs and City Hall Precinct 86 Floresville while most did not meet. Delegates to Fort Worth are the aim of the meeting.
Holstein trails for a runoff with 27 votes shy of a clear majority against opponents Willie Readex and Will H. Radford from Karnes and Wilson counties. Incumbent T. L. Holstein seeks re election in the 79th District. Reader and Radford tally totals in Wilson and Karnes counties amount to 8704 votes combined, forcing a Saturday runoff with the top remaining candidate, William C. Reader of Kenedy.
Dr Frank Vela opens a new dental office in Floresville with an all day open house. A large crowd toured the modern suite and new equipment while friends sent floral tributes. Vela, a Floresville High School graduate, earned his dental degree from St Louis University in 1944 and served in the U S Navy Dental Corps during World War II.

The first carloads of Wilson county peanuts from Floresville for the 1948 crop were shipped on Tuesday July 27 two cars carrying about 50 000 pounds each. Joe C Donaho a local buyer purchased and shipped the initial load as shipments from Floresville and other county areas accelerate. The A D Warnken peanut mill at Poth is operating and the outlook is good for a strong yield despite setbacks with the season moving heavy in the county and neighboring areas.
The Fairview Baptist Church congregation completed a new building replacing the former church destroyed by the storm. A homecoming for former members will be held on the dedication date, August Sunday. Details of the program will be announced next week in the Chronicle Journal. All friends and former members are urged to attend the dedication and homecoming to share joys with old neighbors on church grounds.
The Salvation Army opens its annual Wilson County fundraising drive on Monday August 2 led by field representative Walter J Hayt who will assist locally. Sam Fore and others on the county committee urging generous contributions.
Floresville Eagles defeat Sinton 4 0 with Tejada throwing a two hitter and striking out eight. Zuniga led off with a triple as Floresville built an early lead in the first inning. A Guerra and Wieding contributed runs as the defense struggled for Sinton.
A large crowd is expected for the Floresville Softball League playoff opener pitting the Floresville Motor Co. team against the Floresville High Tigers. Both sides are described as strong and eager for a whale of a game. Another playoff game from the rained out summer schedule will be played the same night, with teams yet to be decided for Wednesday.
Veterans Affairs offices in the San Antonio region stay open through Saturday to offer World War II veterans one last chance to reinstate lapsed National Service Life Insurance on a comparative health basis. Leon P. Howell says eligible veterans need only file a simple form and pay two months' premiums, with medical exams required after Saturday for lapses longer than three months.

The body of Set. Ysidro Pena Jr 24 a war hero who died at Anzio Italy on May 80 1044 was reburied Monday. Funeral from Palacios Funeral Home Wednesday at 10 am conducted by Rev Fred Drees with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery Floresville Post No 8 American Legion provided a firing squad and military honors. Pena served in the U S Army volunteered for service and was born and raised in Floresville Wilson County joins in silent tribute.
