New York Cotton Exchange service reports total kinds of cotton in the United States ending the season at about 9,700,000 bales. The larger stock stems from no big carry over and a strong crop last year, with exports higher than all but one season in decades. World carry over implications suggest 3,650,000 bales available abroad.
The Texas State Board of Education reduced the per pupil scholastic apportionment from 17.50 to 16.00 dollars effective for the 1932-83 school year. Comptroller's estimates of revenues prompted the cut, with contracts to be adjusted accordingly and officials notified.
Dallas dispatch reports Texas Democratic primary returns show Congressman Sterling Strong leading in Place 3 and Joe Burkett overtaking Douglas McGregor for a run off. Mrs Miriam Ferguson gains a large governor lead over Gov. Sterling with 364 625 votes. Statewide tallies include Shaver over Woods for state superintendent and Thompson edging Hatcher in railroad commissioner. Attorney General Allred re-elected.
Local boards report a record turnout in Saturdays state primary with a total of 864,908 ballots counted. Officials confirm the result under ongoing audits as precincts finalize results and announce preliminary tallies.
The July census places Gonzales County Texas at the forefront of six counties nationwide for turkey production with 182 833 birds. Otter Tail County Minnesota ranks second with 117 823 birds. One other Texas county is noted among ‘‘pregasti ob sag’’ counties in the report.

M. M. Scott and his wife, formerly of Amarillo, have purchased 10 acres on the Floresville highway four miles north of town. They took possession of the small store and filling station from Mrs. B. M. Brundage and plan improvements. Mrs. Augusta Chappell is visiting relatives in Natchez, Mississippi.
The state tax rate is reduced by five cents, fixing the property valuation levy at 69 cents per $100 of assessed value. The reduction applies to this year’s taxes.

District Judge W. D. Murray, after three weeks of medical treatment at Fort Sam Houston Base Hospital, has returned to his Floresville home. Attending physicians say no operation was needed and his health is significantly improved. He plans to spend the remainder of his court vacation at home.
Victoria Texas July 27 Mayor E J Blackert won the Democratic nomination for State Senator in the 18th District with a clear majority around 1000 votes. His opponents were Victoria Senator J W Stevenson and Dan W Huffer publisher of Jourdanton Atascosa County.

Lavernia Texas July 27 The first bale of 1932 cotton ginned at Say ers was raised on the Joel Zigmond farm. The bale weighed 512 pounds and was classed as strict middling cotton. Hot dry weather accelerates opening and gins will be steady by next week.
The regular August meeting of Fior esville Post No 38 American Legion will not be held next Tuesday night. Many members will be attending the State Convention at Corpus Christi.
