Two Wilson County residents died in automobile crashes in the past week. Tomas G. Kiehn, 21, of Stockdale, was killed early Tuesday July 19 after speeding and losing control on a curve on Tezel Road at about 2:45 a.m., crossing a grassy median into oncoming traffic.
Floresville Electric Light and Power System approved a 3.5 percent rate increase effective December 15 and the ability to issue up to three million dollars in additional revenue bonds. Despite the rise, FELPS rates remain among the lowest when compared with other utilities across Texas and the United States.
Floresville school district plans to put a Gateway Tablet PC in the hands of every teacher this school year. The tablets will be provided at a reduced price through a district partner and allow in‑class writing on screen plus projection to larger displays for student viewing.
More than 70 youngsters attended the Little Dancer and Cheerleader Camp at Floresville High School. They learned a dance and cheer routine to perform at the first home football game on Sept. 9. Varsity cheerleader Clarissa Orth assisted teachers and was popular with students.
Floresville city council approved closing C Street from Second to Fourth, Third Street from B to D, and D Street from Second to Fourth for the Peanut Festival and carnival. An extra Saturday morning closure at C and Fourth will allow the parade. City officials ordered advance notice under new rules and urged organizers to notify downtown businesses and post office officials about the closed boxes.
