IWC Prof Named to President Cabinet Committee
Dr Earl Jones named consultant to the Presidents Committee on Opportunities for Spanish Speaking Peoples. Jones, a longtime educator with 22 Spanish publications, will advise on strategies to boost competency of late Spanish speaking minorities in the United States. He has worked with Texas Mexican Americans and teaches at Incarnate Word College.

High Winds Damaged Roemer Farm Buildings Thursday
On July 20, 1972, about 4 PM, strong winds and a brief tornado damaged a hay barn at Alfred and Roemer’s farm six miles west of town in Labatt Community. A cor ner of the barn roof collapsed, sheet iron fragments struck a wall, and a storage tank was toppled by a fallen tree. Despite the destruction, a nearby storage shed housing two tractors and a combine survived, and a pine and several pear trees remained unscathed. Neighbor Hans Roemer watched the black clouds form as the storm swept in.

The eighteenth annual Range Camp for outstanding 4 H and FFA boys of Texas opened July 16, 1972, at the Texas Tech Center near Junction. Kenneth Bauer of Black Hill 4-H Club Atascosa Co attends, sponsored by Atascosa Co Soil Conservation. Thirty two youths gather for a week of range management training, wildlife management, ranch planning, and field trips to Edwards County Ranch and the Texas A&M University Sonora station.
