Stockdale Public Hearing Sparks Opposition to Halfway House

A July 18 public hearing in Stockdale drew standing room only as residents voiced concerns about a proposed halfway house on Farm to Market Road 1107 run by Connecting Today. Founder Phyliss Brown described housing up to ten parolees in a three bedroom home with security cameras but no on site guard, while opponents led by attorney William Knobles cited lack of public notice and a petition with over 400 signatures from local officials and residents.

Flooding disrupts Wilson County as stockdale bears brunt

Health official Edwin Baker says Friday’s rain caused flash and river flooding across Wilson County with Stockdale hit hardest. 12-15 people were helped to safety by emergency crews as several major roads including US 87 and Texas 123 were closed. A fallen oak later blocked southbound 181, briefly delaying traffic but causing no injuries.
