Planes Collide Near Floresville Two Brooks Cadets Escape
Two Brooks Field cadets in a five plane formation collided at 5,600 feet over Floresville. Cadet R C Williams of Columbus Ohio bailed out unharmed as his plane burned two miles north of Floresville. Cadet Phillip L Willis of Kaufman managed to fly back to Brooks Field despite a damaged wing. An Eastern Airlines pilot reported seeing the parachute descent and fire. Major Stanton T Smith ordered an investigation. Local witnesses aided the downed pilot and reported the crash details.

Weather Testing Chute Found By McKenzie
J S McKenzie found a bright red silk parachute with a silver aluminum box and U S Government marks in a Hy Keister pasture. The device, marked from a U S Weather Bureau test sent from San Antonio on July 8 at 12 30 A M, carried a radio instrument recording temperature pressure and moisture aloft. It orbited to about 12 miles high before balloon failure and is to be returned to the Weather Bureau.

Farmers warned that excessive rains insects or abandonment may cause total or partial loss of 1941 cotton crops and affect yields and insurance for 1942. Acreage will be considered planted if not disposed of before the blooming stage or within 10 days after notice, without changing stamp basis.
Wilson County Cotton Farmers Given
Wilson County farmers may dispose of cotton to meet the supplementary program and align acreage with reductions shown on intention sheets. AAA chairman John Bednarz notes amendment to the 1941 conservation plan allows disposal before the boiling stage or within ten days after notice of seeded acreage, but stamps are limited to the signed acreage only.

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Mattie Gilmore Deskin aged 82 a Tennessee native and long time Wilson County resident at Murray Funeral Home. She died July 14 1941 in Easter community after a ten day illness. Interment followed at Floresville Cemetery. Survived by two daughters four sons a sister sixteen grandchildren and eight covens.
