Mrs Hilda Rogers Long Service Postmaster of McCoy Texas
Mrs Hilda A Rogers veteran postmaster of 43 years retired June 30 1972 at McCoy Texas. She served since 1929 succeeding her brother William H Thane a mail service veteran of 30 years. Appointed by Herbert Hoover in 1928 she served under seven presidents including Nixon. In 1961 she toured Europe with 90 postmasters. A December 1958 fire destroyed her post office store and home but was rebuilt. Born July 1993 in Sweet Home Lavaca County she moved to Atascosa County as a child. She has two daughters and five grandchildren.

Tejada Receives Degree From St Marys University
Alex Tejada son of Mr and Mrs Alex M Tejada of Floresville Texas was among 880 graduating seniors who received degrees Sunday May 14 at St Marys University San Antonio. The Very Rev Louis J Blume presided as president and William F Quinn first elected governor of Hawaii delivered the commencement address. The class was the largest in the universitys history.

Floresville hosts first Pitch Hit Throw contest winners named
The City of Floresville recreation department held its first Pitch Hit and Throw event on Saturday July 8. Winners across five age groups included Victor Trevino nine, James Cochran ten, Ruben Rodriguez eleven, John Flores twelve, and David Marroquin thirteen with second places noted. Winners travel to Houston July 29 to see Astros play Dodgers. The turnout was light but participants enjoyed the event and parents helped with setup. Mr Talamantez loaned equipment.

Cox Home Damaged by Fire in Refugio
Mr and Mrs Del Cox traveled to Refugio after hearing their son's brick residence was heavily damaged by fire about 1 a m on Tuesday. Fire started on the roof and fireworks are suspected. Two cars in the garage were totaled and the house along with furnishings suffered heavy smoke and water damage. Julie returned home with her grandparents.
