1st Lieut. Andy Hunter a marauder bomber pilot in England for months with over 60 missions to his credit returned from a 30 day furlough with his parents Mr and Mrs W D Hunter and reported to the Atlantic Coast for further duty. 1st Lieut. Joe Carr son of Judge and Mrs B S Carr of Floresville who also spent a 30 day furlough with his parents after serving as a bombardier on a B 26 marauder in England with several missions to his credit also left this week to report for further duty on the Atlantic coast.

Floresville Wins State War Bond Awards For Band
Floresville's 1949 Victory Band Concerts, led by Fritz Teltschik, swept two first place statewide in War Bonds and Stamps sales. Five concerts in May drew 8,700 attendees, averaging over 700 per show, raising 25318220 dollars. Governor Stevenson mailed the proclamation and award to Supt. C J Garland for the statewide winner status.

Joe H. Brooks, 65, longtime resident of Wilson County, died July 3 at Blake Hospital after months of illness. Funeral services were held July 4 at Murray Funeral Home with burial in Sutherland Springs cemetery. He lived in Sutherland Springs and Floresville areas much of his life and worked at the electric light plant before farming. He is survived by his widow.

Bert Wright Injured Gutting Mesquite Posts on Farm
Bert Wright son of Deputy Sheriff Tom Wright of this city suffered a serious left foot injury while gutting mesquite posts on his father’s farm in the Fairview community Wednesday or last week. Miculka returned from the 14th Slavonic Benevolent Order convention in Corpus Christi as Path Lodge No 61 delegate. Contributions included 500 to the Red Cross and 4000 to the Checho Slovak Relief Fund. War bonds total 1 350 000. The event, held on the Plaza hotel deck, was chaired by Ed L Marek of Temple.
