The first 1983 Wil son county bale arrived June 29 ginned by A. D. Warnken & Sons weighing 496 pounds and bought by Wm. Eckel & Co. at 10 cents. Floresville’s first bale July 4 weighed 545 pounds, ginned by Floresville Farmers' Gin Co. and sold to R. L. Eschenburg at 11 cents with a premium. A third bale from C. R. Farmers Warned Not To Destroy Cotton Acreage Until Notified
COLLEGE STATION Texas July 4 A warning to Texas farmers not to plough up their cotton until cotton acreage reduction contracts have been approved by the secretary of agriculture was issued by H H Williamson in charge of the cotton reduction campaign in Texas Williamson said farmers would be deprived of any benefits whatever if they destroyed their cotton before contracts had been approved by Washington He discussed complaints that some landlords are asking tenants to give up more than the traditional one fourth or one half share of cash rentals to be received Williamson said it is the plain intent of the cotton adjustment administration that the tenant receive his customary share of cash rental paid by the government All contracts must be mailed to Washington from county headquarters by July 8
