Dokols prepare a large community celebration at the hall for July 8 with visitors from neighboring towns. Morning gym contests, noon sausage dinner, and an afternoon program of prominent speakers and music. All are invited.
Large crowds are expected for the fourth annual Sokol gymnastic tournament at Sokol Hall four miles southwest of Floresville on Sunday July 8. A noon sausage dinner, music by Mac's Orchestra, and a grand ball will follow a day of athletic contests and exhibitions with Sokols from San Antonio Corpus Christi Placebo and Floresville. Admission 10 cents. An earlier note recalls the Sokol movement’s aim of physical moral unity among Czechoslovak people and the women Sokols' parallel roles.
The American Legion Auxiliary partners with Wilson County Relief Board Social Welfare Chairman to gather quilt scraps and materials for bed clothing for the needy this winter. Quilts will be made at the Relief Office sewing room and residents are urged to donate any quantity or kind of material at Lieberman's store within the coming week.
Two truckloads of wool from about 21 farmers in the Boerne area were sold to Montague & Ingen huett at the tracks. The 3,495 pounds brought $585.21 with grades from 12 1 2 to 22 cents per pound and lamb wool at 10 cents. Pioneers John Pfeil and C A Moehrig promote sheep on every farm as a diversification, backed by local growers Ed Harper, Cicero Harper, John Myers, Park Tipton, and ER Beth who support the idea.
The Kosciusko Fourth of July celebration drew a large attendance with many residents joining the parade and festivities. Organizers reported strong participation across community groups and local businesses supported the event with activities and refreshments.
Wiley Seale suffers injuries in an automobile crash near Robstown. T A Simons of Kingsville also hurt in the same accident. Both victims transported to a local hospital for treatment.
A Simons Jr of Kingsville and Wiley Seale of Linton were injured when their car left Highway near Robstown between 2 and 5 am Saturday. Simons suffered a leg fracture and shock. Seale had shock and possible injuries. They were taken to Kleberg County Hospital in Kingsville. The crash allegedly followed a blowout. both men were en route from Robstown to Kingsville. Seale later reportedly had a broken vertebra and plaster casts on neck and shoulders. The article also notes Congressman Kleberg will visit Wilson County soon and plan district-wide tours in the new fourteenth Texas district.
W H Woellert and sons of Poth spent a brief afternoon in Floresville on Tuesday, visiting local friends and taking in the town’s atmosphere during a short trip.
The Floresville Cemetery Association will meet Friday July 13 at 3 30 p m at the home of Mrs R C Teas. All members are invited to attend.
W H Houston and Joe Warren Sheehy were San Antonio visitors on Tuesday.
Funeral services honor E W Seale of the College of Arts and Industries at Kingsville. Thousands from Floresville and South Texas attend the ceremony and burial in a hillside cemetery near Floresville. Congressman Kleberg and Bobbitt praise Seale for his dedication to education and youth. Pallbearers include regional figures from Floresville Kenedy Robstown and Kingsville.
Religious services will be held twice daily at the Mexican Methodist Church from Sunday July 15 through Sunday July 22. Rev Felix Segovia of the Mexican Methodist Church in Austin will lead the services with morning prayers from 9 to 10 and evening prayers from 8 30 to 9 30.
Memorial service held at Kingsville A and I College in state for president E W Seale who died in Detroit on June 26. Hundreds attended in college forum as Dr George F Williams delivered invocation and Rev A H Clark led In Memoriam. The program included hymns scripture lessons and remarks by D J L Nierman and board members S L Gill and P S Garner.
Adolph and Leonard Wright of the Loire community dug trench silos for their corn crop storage, with one silo 50 by 70 feet at the bottom and 8 by 6 feet at the top, filled using ensilage cutters and dirt. The pair plan to hold surplus and later refill their silos with hegari, aiming to feed later this summer.
Miss Almarene Kuban and Mr. Emil Ventur united in marriage in a Wednesday morning ceremony at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Rev. P P Zarb officiated as ferns and roses decorated the altar for the nuptial vows.
Senator Tom Connally of Marlin Texas will speak on radio station WOAI San Antonio Saturday night July 7 from 8 to 830 p.m. The junior senator and noted Democrat and orator is scheduled to address listeners in a nationally watched program.
