Judge W. C. Murray will run without opposition in the civil court race. Associate Justice T. D. Dobbs of San Antonio withdraws from the Fourth Court of Civil Appeals. A wife’s illness causes the decision. Dobbs has served on the court many years and issues a statement.
Judge Thomas D. Cobbs withdraws from renomination for associate justice of the Fourth Court of Civil Appeals due to ill health and his wife's condition. Judge W. D. Murray of Wilson will appear without opposition on the ballot after Cobbs' withdrawal is processed before absentee ballots are printed.
COLLEGE STATION Texas June 29 Production and marketing problems facing the Texas cotton farmer will highlight the four day agronomy sections at the twenty third annual short course for farm and ranch people to be held at Texas A and M College July 25 30 An outline shows two full programs and parts of two others devoted to cotton research experts from across the state will discuss general cotton problems uneven quality staples in spinning governmental agricultural agencies soil erosion fertilizers crop rotation and cultivation The program includes noted figures from the University of Texas the U S Department of Agriculture and the Texas Cotton Cooperative Association among others
Up to yesterday afternoon 137 car loads of watermelons had been shipped from Floresville this season. Shipments continue at a lively pace despite a low market which has improved slightly. Flory and Albers have shipped out five carloads of onions this week. Movement slowed by market, with cars on hand sold and held until a market upturn. J. J. Albers says national shipments slowed last week and demand may rise in coming days.
A 1982 Jourdanton Texas notice reports Dan W. Huffer seeking ballot placement for the 18th Texas Senate district. The text cites an attorney general ruling authorizing Huffer to have his name printed on official ballots after filing and paying the required fee in each county.
Young inventor Albert builds a custom car from parts of 13 vehicles found in dump grounds and wrecks. The Longhorn runs 35 to 40 mph normally but can reach 90 mph with gearing. Featuring button controls, gloss white finish, silvered harness studs, and polished Longhorn horn accents. Not for sale, it symbolizes a dream turned real.
Ticket sales are under way for a Salvation Army benefit at San Pedro Park in San Antonio on July 20. The event features a 12 to 15 act acrobatic dance circus directed by Fred Glasscock, acts by Espinoso brothers and Susie Mijares, a girls ball game between Joske's Mannequins and a City Playground League all star team, and admission is 40 cents for adults and 25 cents for children. Proceeds aid daily care for 5,000 to 7,000 needy in the San Antonio area.
Floresville businessman R L Eschenburg received responses from U S Senator Morris Sheppard and Congressman R M Kleberg to letters urging farm relief and lower government expenses. The messages dated June 18 1932 express regret over farm price collapse and note support for farm aid while lamenting defeat of the aid bill.
HARLINGEN Texas June 29 Surpassing all its previous records the Lower Rio Grande Valley planted 1 275 586 more citrus trees in the year to April 1 1982 boosting total to 7 864 000 Thirty inspectors worked since April 1 on the census The year’s plantings surprised Valley residents who expected a drop The region now counts 5 963 369 grapefruit trees 1 671 758 orange trees and 228 873 miscellaneous citrus trees.
The all day picnic and entertainment by Poth Catholic Church at Herman Sons Hall drew many attendees from surrounding communities. A barbecue dinner and supper met the usual Path standard for such occasions and guests enjoyed a full day of activities.
Floresville plans a townwide closure as all business houses will be shut for the entire day on Monday July 4. The move aims to observe a holiday period with local officials endorsing the quiet business district.
The Three Oaks hall hosts a district wide event next Sunday July 3 to celebrate Independence Day. The afternoon features speeches by local candidates after a noon start with music by the nine piece Happy Cousins Band and Orchestra from Fayette county. Supper at 5 includes barbecued beef and mutton sausage and sides, followed by an Old Style Dance to close the day.
Records from the Office of Tax Collector G. A. Hill show poll tax payments in Wilson County fall 762 short of the 1930 tally. For 1930, total payments were 4,043 with 3,281 receipts issued in 1932, the current election year. The list details payments by precinct for public information.
Floresville postmaster Wm Reese announced new postal rates for first class mail will be 3 cents per ounce with 3 cents for each additional ounce or fraction. Air mail rises to 8 cents for the first ounce and 13 cents for each additional ounce. Postcards stay at 1 cent. Parcel post rates start October 4.

Dr. R H Carroll president of Carroll College San Antonio suffered painful injuries in a car accident on the Corpus Christi Highway near Floresville Tuesday night. He was returning to San Antonio from a southern trip when the vehicle collided near Kuban Filling Station three miles south of here.
