Focus On 4-H By Ismaro Cardenas Wilson Co Extension Agent

Wilson County 4-H Meats team led by Ismaro Cardenas won top honors at the National 4-H Meats Judging Contest held January 11, 1997 at Colorado State University. Four local youths Jack Higgins Matthew Koepp Steven Lowak and Ryan Titzman competed against ten 4-H teams and three FFA teams, scoring best in Placing Classes and Reasons and second in Meat Identification to capture first overall with 2117 points.

Public agency aid sought for Floresville Fun Park plan

Rex Murphy of Floresville and Michelle Ingrassia-Jones of San Antonio seek support from Floresville Industrial Development Corp for Park Fun Park Family Entertainment Center on U.S. 181. The phased project aims for a 1998 opening costing about 297000 dollars with 34600 dollars owner equity, using local contractors and bank loans. Rudy Rodriguez is listed as project architect. 25 local jobs expected upon completion.

Road Sign Thefts Hit Wilson County And Floresville

Wilson County reports missing county and city road signs raising concerns for accident risks and delayed emergency responses. Theft penalties include fines up to 500 dollars or up to 2000 dollars and 180 days in jail for higher valued signs. Floresville areas also show sign disappearances as plans progress for a new park project with community backing and no formal application yet filed.

Austin district representative Richard Raymond of Denavides announced that the City of Floresville was awarded a $500,000 state parks project grant. The funding aims to support park improvements and recreational initiatives within Floresville.

Floresville Tiger Band students notch a record number of All-District and All-Region selections across 4A 3A 2A and A UIL Music Region XI. Concerts featured top instrument players including Dziuk Hartl Perez Caisse McNeil Little Spicer Munoz Gafford Anderson Tondre Polasek Pundt Chavez Reile Garcia.

David Wolf Killed In Wreck Last Friday

David Michael Wolf fifty of Floresville died in an early morning crash on January 24 1997 when his car collided with a loaded cement truck owned by Vulcan Materials Co driven by Domingo Gonzales of San Antonio Gonzales said he paused at the yield sign at US 181 and Texas 775 before proceeding eastward the state highway collision remains under investigation

New Area Codes For 210 Begin July 7 1997 Floresville Included

The new 210 area code will serve much of the present 210 region starting July 7 1997 with the San Antonio area retaining 210 and the rest moving to 830 including Floresville and several other communities. GTE service areas moving to 830 include Blanco Boerne Charlotte Del Rio Dilley Floresville Fredericksburg Gillett Gonzales Granite Shoals Johnson City Jourdanton Kosciusko LaVernia Marble Falls Nixon Path Round Mountain Smiley Somerset Stonewall Sutherland Springs Willow City. In a separate accident heavy fog contributed to a collision involving a cement truck and a car driven by Wolf near Floresville injuring Barbara Wolf 37 Virginia Clark 17 Melissa Clark 16 and 8 month old Josyth Wolf. All were listed in good condition Friday afternoon. A prayer service was held January 28 and a funeral procession January 29 to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.

The Search For Dona Maria Television Premiere

The program The Search for Dona Maria premieres Friday January 31 at 10 00 a m on KLRN TV, detailing the history of Texas with the Las Cabras Mission near Floresville along the San Antonio River. The Texas Through Time Living History Foundation, a nonprofit, supports the opera project and uses the Web for outreach. Pleas McNeil is credited for development and information sharing on the net.
