Gillingham Signs With Rice University Football Scholarship
Poth High School senior Greg Gillingham has verbally committed to Rice University for football and will sign on February 11, 1987. He starred at tackle, earned district honors, captained his senior year, and is a four year basketball starter. Gillingham aims for mechanical engineering at Rice and may redshirt his first year to extend eligibility. Coach Bill Beasley notes strong Sugar Land recruitments and four previous Rice alums from his program.

Wrights Cafe was burglarized last Friday. A local man, called a bear by residents, was caught attempting to leave through a back window as police and two county deputies responded. A concerned citizen alerted authorities, leading to the arrest and recovery of loot. This was the fourth break‑in in several months.
