The Wilson County Junior Livestock Show runs Thursday through Saturday January 25–27 with two key auctions: Baked Food Auction at 6:00 PM Friday January 26 and Junior Livestock Auction at 7:00 PM Saturday January 27 1990. Committee invites community attendance and notes a new Show Barn addition and social hour before the weekend sale.
A notice announces player tryouts for the men’s tag football team for the upcoming spring season. Call 393 7559 for more information.
On Saturday January 27, 1990 at 1 00 p m the Wilson County Courthouse lawn hosts Floresville centennial events. The City will raise colors with the Boy Scout group National Anthem and songs by Floresville Tiger Marching Band Invocation by Scott Donaho Master of Ceremonies to be named. A balloon release will celebrate the milestone with a centennial poster concert.
Floresville marks its 100th birthday with student poster contest winners across grades Kindergarten through high school. Abraham Brunner named Grand Champion. Patricia Alfaro and Kim Andrisek earn runners up. Five categories produced 105 entries from Floresville School System and Sacred Heart Catholic School. Public invited to ceremonies downtown this Saturday January 27.
Dr. Wayne R Deason D V M opens Deasons Animal Hospital at D Street and Hwy 181 South Floresville on Saturday January 27 offering full service veterinary care for large and small animals. Hours 8 30 to 5 30 weekdays and 8 to 12 Saturday with after hours emergencies and boarding.
The Pirate Athletes Club hosts a Path Lift A Thon Sr faculty basketball game. The event starts at 6 3 and features students and staff competing to raise funds. Proceeds support club activities and campus programs.
Mark Arnold highlights Behind the Scenes support for the Wilson County Baked Food Show. Hoelscher's donates two microwaves for Grand Champion prizes. Sears Floresville provides first to third place trophies. Extension Homemakers organize setup, curtains, and daily prep with helpers from Al Chilek and volunteers. They also supply 4th to 6th place ribbons and prize money while aiding out of county judges.
The home of Mr and Mrs V J Brown off Highway 97 across from Bleeker Dairy was heavily damaged by fire early Saturday January 20 1990. The Browns were awakened by smoke at 3:00 am phones were out as Mrs Brown sent help from a nearby home. Floresville Volunteer Fire Department arrived in 15 minutes and containment helped by Brown closing interior doors. Cause undetermined though central heating unit cited. no damage estimate available. Mrs Brown Barbara works as Floresville city secretary. Mr Brown currently vacant residence.
