Commissioners tackle safety changes for emergency districts
County officials outlined planned changes to emergency service areas and EN numbering to align with grant needs and AACOG approval. Emergency Management Coordinator LeAnn Hosek and Health and Safety Officer Edwin Baker explained new automatic aide procedures and proposed ESN adjustments including EN 320 upgrades and division realignments among Floresville VFD La Vernia VFD and other entities. Also discussed were speed bumps for Home Place Subdivision to protect children and address mailbox damage from speeding vehicles.

The annual Wilson County Junior Livestock and Baked Food Show runs Wednesday January 23 through Saturday January 26 at the Wilson County Show Barn. Rabbits check-in starts 4 p.m. and the auction begins at 4 p.m. Saturday with the Junior Auction Sale. Friday features the Baked Food Show with Champion and Reserve Champion sold at 6 p.m. public exhibits follow 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Entries are purchasable.

Floresville Peanut Festival seeks 2008 festival court applicants
The Floresville Peanut Festival Association invites junior girls in good standing from Floresville High School or eligible neighboring jurisdictions within the Floresville ISD area to apply for the 2008 festival court. Application packets will be available at Floresville High School and the Floresville Chamber of Commerce starting Monday, January 28.

Stockdale Fire Department to receive DHS grant
The Stockdale Volunteer Fire Department will obtain a 62976 dollar grant to fund training operations and safety equipment under the DHS Office of Grants and Training Assistance to Firefighters program.
