Floresville honors Mr and Mrs Barnes at junior livestock show
Two Floresville residents Mr W J Barnes and Mrs Barnes are honored by the Bexar County Junior Livestock Show for decades of youth and civic service. The 10th annual show runs January 18 to 20 and is dedicated to the Barneses for their longstanding work with 4 H and livestock programs. The Barnes family moved from Bexar County to Floresville in 1967 and remain active in Wilson and Bexar County shows and youth leadership. Congratulations to the couple on the well deserved recognition.

Wilson County Ambulance Squad elects officers and plans training
The Wilson County Ambulance Squad held a meeting on January 9 and elected Johnny King president Ted Keen vice president Susan Winyard secretary Mildred Hill treasurer Butch Bednarz safety officer Marvin Roemer maintenance officer The squad begins first aid classes January 24 requiring forty hours of training per member. The organization notes a need for a Carry-All ambulance and urges community support. There were 305 wrecks in 1972 with 80 percent between Path Floresville and Stockdale Floresville.

Pre Registration Opens At Poth Elementary Jan 22
Pre registration for children five and six years old, those entering first grade in August, will be held at the elementary principal's office starting January 22 from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Birth certificates are required.

Floresville Tigers and Jaguars drop district openers
The Floresville Tigers and Jaguars both lost two district games last week. Poth beat the Tigers 59 46 after a tight first half while the Jaguars fell 47 35 to Poth. Jane Frieda led Jaguars with 18 points and Catherine Mayes added 10. Tigers then lost 73 58 to Karnes City and dropped to 0 2 in district play. Carl Mayberry scored 26 in both Path and Karnes City games. Jaguars lost 64 26 to Karnes City as Frieda had 15. The Tigers and Jaguars travel to Kenedy on Jan 19 and Yorktown on Jan 23 for out of town games.

Year end figures show Falls City National Bank with exceptional growth in the past year. Total assets on December 31, 1972 reached 2,375,450.95 versus 1,875,033.40 a year earlier, a gain over 21 percent. Deposits stood at 2,136,020.60 on December 31, 1972, up 23 percent from 1,659,400.68 in 1971. The growth is driven by a rising local economy and a 12 percent increase in checking and saving accounts.
