William James Barnes Sr a San Antonio area cattle rancher is named the nineteenth recipient of the Joe Freeman Award by the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Farm and Ranch Committee. The luncheon presentation is January 17 at the Pearl Brewery Jersey Lilly Room. Barnes, a Brackenridge High School graduate, moved to Wilson County in 1967 and has long served in 4 H church school and civic roles with multiple local chambers and farm bureaus. City Manager Everett Taylor and volunteers rallied to organize pledges, donations, and a party, with Santa, stockings, toys, and a cafeteria dinner for those in need. Carr finished short of the goal but praised for dedication. Ricci Ware’s 1962 record was noted as a distant standard.
