Local Floresville musicians place in region band meet
Floresville High School band students Richard Garza Jerry Teltschik and Harry Walker tried out at McArthur High School in San Antonio on January 6. Teltschik and Walker earned spots in the region band with Teltschik also qualifying for the All-Area Band on January 18 in Austin. All three had placed in the All-District Band in December under director Dick Wuppermann. Mitton Poehler of Hondo visited the Patterson family.

FHA Rural Housing Loans Made in Wilson County
More than 166 rural residents in Wilson County gained new or improved homes through $298,780 in insured loan funds advanced by the Farmers Home Administration in the last two years. In 1967 alone, $197,680 was advanced. The program shifted in 1965 to private sources for financing, expanding under President Johnson to strengthen rural America. Most funds now come from private banks and individuals, with many loans going to families including senior citizens. The grants supported local carpenters and tradespeople, adding 5,975 man days of work and boosting the local economy by about $2,094,460. A noted case is the Lucas Cabrera family of Stockdale, moved from a dilapidated shack to a new $4,100 home with monthly payments of $25.
