L F Spruce announces an annual commerce meeting with a supper on Monday. He urges chamber members and citizens to attend the first meeting of the new year to discuss city has and county projects. Reservations are requested by Monday night at 50 cents per plate.
Highway Department workers passed an Advanced First Aid exam and received Red Cross certificates. Names listed include Clyde Burkett Tom S Campbell Harvey Hosek Pedro Barcenes MR Johnson Charles NI J EB Williams and Atkinson, Wilson County main foreman. The program is run under Wilson County Red Cross oversight.
State SCS heads visited Floresville to review the district soil conservation plan and progress. They said USDA assistance would follow the completion of a district work plan and a memorandum of understanding with the Department.
Floresville High School Band directed by Fritz Teltschik will give a public concert tonight at 8:00 at Hermann Sons Hall in Poth. Proceeds benefit both Floresville and Poth schools. The program mirrors December’s except for new Christmas numbers and features Poth Band under Lothard Lampke.

The 14th annual Texas Agricultural Workers Association meeting will be held in San Antonio January 10-11 at the Gunter Hotel. The program theme is drafting Texas agriculture for national defense with sectional meetings focusing on specific agricultural topics.
Mr and Mrs J B McKenzie longtime Floresville residents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at home on Monday January 6 1940. The event drew all their children for a family dinner and friends brought calendarias and best wishes from the Methodist church. The couple wed January 6 1891 at Blossom Texas later moving to the Fairview area before settling in Floresville in 1902.
County Agent Fred Elliott presents Wilson County agricultural conditions for 1940. Diversified crops include corn, grain sorghums, peanuts, cotton, melons, onions, and Sudan grass, with irrigation expanding in San Antonio River and Kosciusko areas. Census shows 2090 farms. average farm value about $5,000. 157 acre sage size, 113 cultivated.

The Wilson County Agricultural Association held its first regular meeting of 1941 on January 7 to discuss organizational condition and plan a membership drive in effect. The group is part of the Texas Agricultural Association and the American Farm Bureau Federation, which lobbies Washington under President Ed O’Niel. Due to national defense needs, lawmakers face a tough fight to advance agricultural objectives and keep issues in lawmakers’ minds amid soil conservation worries. A separate local crime note reports three arrests after robberies. two pistols and clothing found in a Ledì house, a stolen radio recovered in San Antonio, and a grand jury in Wilson County indicted four men for robbery and a separate assault with intent to murder on Floresville streets. Trials set for Saturday morning by District Judge S. B. Carr.

The Floresville Methodist ladies plan a Mexican supper tonight at 6 30 in the former Chamber of Commerce. The marriage of Miss Evelyn Merchant of Floresville to Horace B Lowman of Corpus Christi was solemnized at the bride's home.
