Texas Peanut Producers Board meeting actions and plans
The Texas Peanut Producers Board met in Hempstead on December 7, 1970. A four‑district structure was approved with two directors per district and one at large member, plus a $10,000 promotional budget for TAP and $1,000 for misc promotions. A new Southwestern Peanut Research and Education Advisory Committee was formed to coordinate cross‑state research and extension. Funds of $680,000 were approved for peanut seed purchases for research, with the State Department of Agriculture conducting the work. The board also voted $300 to the American Broadcasters Association in appreciation of cooperation. Income Tax Return Rules For Farmers Ranchers and Fishermen
Farmers ranchers and fishermen were reminded that January 15 is the last day for filing estimated federal income tax returns for 1970 unless they file a final return and pay the full tax by March 1 1971. Those who file on Jan 15 and pay due have until April 15 to submit the final return. otherwise the March 1 deadline applies. Taxpayers defined as two thirds or more of gross income from farming, ranching, or fishing must file. Blank forms are available at IRS offices or post offices and banks. Self employment tax applies if net earnings reach 400 dollars.
