The county seeks to raise 1379 dollars for tuberculosis care and prevention. Mrs McDaniel, secretary of the association, notes only a portion of this amount is in and asks residents to donate now. Local 82 cents of every dollar stays home to fund local needs as reminder cards go out this week.
Frio, Caldwell, Guadalupe and Wilson counties lead Texas oil activity with more than 100 new locations and hundreds of completions in 1954. Frio posts 190 dry holes and 232 new production, while Bexar and Wilson counties report heavy late-year drilling. Fracture techniques and chalk drilling drive gains, with Atascosa and Kerr among others staking locations in the year.
Floresville Jaguars district play opening shows 16 wins in preseason with high scoring. Key players include Devine, Matocha, Dornak and Ring contributing double digits. Floresville A team defeats Northeast High School 40 to 20. Floresville B wins 27 to 15 with Glark, Gaydos, Kurtz leading scorers.
Paul Ermler former Wilson County sheriff and Poth rancher dies from a self-inflicted gun wound near his home on New Year’s Day January 1 1955. He was found in a park with a 30 30 Winchester nearby. inquest by Justice J G Youngblood ruled death a personal safety related wound. Large funeral at St John Lutheran Church drew 300 mourners including highway patrol officers and sheriffs from several counties. Born January 24 190? at Sas… to Gus and Ollie Nulkins Eimler, he left a significant public service legacy.
Eight Wilson County officials began new terms on January 1 1955 under a state constitutional amendment dividing terms into four and two years. The four year group includes Merrill L Connally Hal V Warren A M Ezzell John F May W A Bump S J Irwin Leonard Rotter and Var. The remaining officials start two year terms and all will be sworn in and bond filings due January 10 at the County Commissioners Court. Connally was sworn in New Year’s Day in the County Clerk’s office with witnesses present.
Floresville Chamber of Commerce kicks off the new year with its first meeting at the courthouse on Monday January 10 at 7 30 pm. President Spruce calls for a large turnout to set 1965 holiday dates and review county farm ranch and club activity shown in a special film by County Agent D Ray Alford.
Sunnyside Community Club holds its regular monthly social meeting tonight Friday January 7 at 730 p m at the Sunnyside schoolhouse. Everyone is invited to enjoy an evening with friends and neighbors and bring dominoes and tables for games.
The Wilson County Democratic Women's Club marks its first anniversary with a January 21 dinner at the American Legion Hall. Guest speaker will be State Commissioner of Agriculture John C. White. Plate price is 1.50. Reservations with Palma D. Frick, Ivor Schultz, or Floresville Chronicle Journal office before January 14. Prominent Democrats from Corpus Christi and San Antonio are expected.
The Methodist Men met in the church basement on a cold December night and enjoyed a ham supper served by William E. Moss and others. Afterward the group watched the educational film The Hidden Heart in the sanctuary, presented by Supt. Carter Wootton with a copy secured from the Methodist office in San Antonio.
Floresville high school gym hosts girls at 7 and boys at 8 as Floresville and Pleasanton offer two charity games with all net proceeds to the March of Dimes. Lions Club sponsor notes volunteers will sell tickets. adults pay 50 cents for both games, students 30 cents.
Julius Ewing, head of the Floresville rain gauge project, reports Floresville’s total rainfall in 1954 as 18.30 inches. The chronicle also provides official rainfall for 1953 1952 and 1951, noting 1951 at 22.46 inches.
Pleasanton shock as Claud Cannon 38 dies in Ohio during Christmas with his wife Noma Cannon. Survivors include his parents Mr and Mrs Bill Cannon of Pleasanton and brother Donald of Stockdale.
Mr and Mrs Joe E Brows and their sons Joe Jr and Richard of Kingsville spent the past weekend here with Mrs R Teas and Mr and Mrs Chas E Mc Daniel, sharing time with local friends and relatives.
