Floresville Mourns Loss Of Joe Tom Wright In New Year Car Crash
Floresville community reels after a New Year's dawn crash on Highway 181 near the two roadside parks kills Joe Tom Wright 25 and seriously injures Dunn. Wright, a Floresville native and Navy veteran, died from head injuries. Dunn, a Corpus Christi Navy man, is hospitalized. Wright's funeral service drew a large crowd at Floresville Methodist Church. First Auction Sale Of 1956 Totals 283 Head Livestock
The Tiree auction sale at Floresville Livestock Commission Company Tuesday moved 283 head, up from December. Cattle hogs horses sheep and a goat were sold with prices listed including fat calves 16.to 17.60, top hogs 11.60 to 12.10, feeder pigs 9.00 to 10.00, and various cow and steer categories. Buyers from about 12 nearby cities attended.

On January 6, 1956, at 7 30 p m in Wilson County Farm Bureau Hall Floresville, R A Wise Sr post supervisor announced a meeting to organize a Ground Observer Corps observation post. Tech Sergeant Roy Maass from San Antonio Air Defense Filter Center will outline the post function and volunteers are urged to join. A core crew of 12–40 volunteers is sought to start, with two volunteers per two hour watch, aiming for 24 hour operation. patriotic citizens and organizations are asked to participate.
