Three Car Wreck Kills Antonian Student Near Floresville
At about 5 p m Sunday a three car collision two miles north of Floresville caused the death of Antonian student Beverly Priour and injuries to several others. The victim died en route to a San Antonio hospital after being ejected from the vehicle. Other passengers included Priour's stepson Gene Cates and niece Allene Peters, both reported injured or unconscious, with the driver Frank J Largin of Wichita Falls and hitchhiker Thomas Robertson among those treated. Authorities named Floresville Sheriff Paul Ermler and hospital staff in Floresville and Beeville for emergency care.

Shooting Affray at Canada Verde Inn Injures Man
Amado Arefano about 44 was shot in the stomach by a .22 rifle at the Blue Haven Inn near Candida Verde, 12 miles west. He was treated at Floresville Hospital and released. Eligio Arenas about 38, nephew of the wounded man, was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault with a rifle. an examining trial was set in County Court.

M. M. Hughes tax collector notes that 1949 poll taxes are behind and many paid 1949 taxes did not pay poll taxes awaiting election outcome. The November 8 election upheld the poll tax law. those 21 to 60 must have poll taxes to vote. Pay by January 31, 1950 at $1.75 per poll tax. Mail payments must add $1.75 per tax.
