Judge W. C. Murray took the oath of office as associate justice of the Fourth Court of Civil Appeals at San Antonio. He was elected without opposition after serving for years as district judge of the 81st District.
Justice W O Murray was sworn in as Associate Justice of the Fourth Court of Civil Appeals in San Antonio. He succeeds T D Dobbs and was presented to the bench and bar in a ceremony at the Court of Civil Appeals. The Flores and Wilson county native has been praised for his career and honors. Wilson County officials were sworn in, including Joe J Ximenes as district clerk and Norvel Burney as Justice of the Peace Precinct 1. O J Weber became county commissioner Precinct 4. other officers will be sworn in next Monday.
The Floresville Rural Telephone Company stockholders met at the courthouse on Monday January 2 with over half the stock represented. Directors were elected R A Houck RL Eschenburg John Bednarz RJ Woellert WW Herrington and SW Teas and a 50 percent stock dividend was approved plus charter amendment to raise capital from 6000 to 9000. An oyster supper at White House Cafe followed and managers pledged cooperation for year ahead with plans to improve rural lines and service.
Ellinghausen Teltschik Dry Goods Company of this city ends its Poth branch after five years and moves stock to Floresville store. Some staple goods sold to Greif Laas Company at Poth. The firm has an important advertisement elsewhere in this paper and invites reader attention to its message.
Floresville friends learned with grief that Prof F V Garrison aged 63 formerly Floresville and Sulphur Springs educator, died at his Denton home Tuesday. He had been North Texas State Teachers College instructor and Floresville school superintendent for seven years. Funeral held in Denton Wednesday at 3 30 pm.
Two families welcome newborn sons as the old year ends and the new year begins. Fred Roemer and wife celebrate a 12 pound son born December 31, 1982 at 8 10 PM. Paul Hosek and wife on Route 4 greet a 9 pound son born January 1, 1933 at a Dewees area home.
Former Governor James P B Ferguson argues for a general sales tax to replace ad valorem taxes and abolish interest amid calls for the domestic allotment plan to lift cotton and wheat prices. He cites Bryan and deflation, contending inflation is justified to prevent ruin and that a sales tax distributes the burden daily.
The Floresville Musical Club will meet Tuesday January 10 at 4 pm at the home of Mrs J C Houston. James C W Archer and Sam Fore Jr will lead the program which includes a one act play by Miss Jewel Franklin and a book review by Mrs C W Archer. Three Westmoorland College students from San Antonio will provide the musical portion.
At a December 27 1982 meeting in Poth stockholders voted to liquidate the Farmers and Merchants State Bond Bank of Poth. Officers have carried out the wishes of stockholders with depositors to be paid 1060 cents on the dollar. liquidation will take several days. Directors include R L Eschenburg S B Carr Richard Voges Aug E Laas Walter Hasse A J Reinhard and others.
Misses Clara Marie Reigfert and Evangeline Kelly are noted in a social note from the holiday period. The short item mentions these two individuals in a local society context with no further details given.
S. B. Carr of Floresville named by Gov. Ross S Sterling to the List Judicial District bench succeeding W. O. Murray. Carr, a Floresville resident for 20 years, will preside as Karnes City opens its term, bringing a background in law, public service, and civic leadership. He was sworn in and will handle district court matters in multiple counties.
The final 1932 cotton report shows Wilson County gins had 8,677 bales before December 13, 1932, compared with 10,983 bales a year earlier. Texas totals reached 4,044,489 bales versus 4,763,360 bales the previous season.
