Floresville students receive recognition as Who's Who selections highlighting academic achievement and school involvement. The list honors rising seniors and notable leaders, reflecting local education excellence and community pride.
Wilson County begins work on a new public library after the Commissioners Court approved a contract with the Martin Co of San Antonio Texas. A $4660 note held by First City National Bank remains to be raised by fundraisers and memorial gifts to meet the balance. The goal is to liquidate the debt by the library’s completion around late April and be listed on an Honor Roll Plaque for gifts of $100 or more.
A string of traffic mishaps is reported around Floresville including a Dec 31 collision at 3rd and C near Ben Franklin Store involving a 1966 Chevrolet Impala driven by Gloria P Ximenez and a 1956 Chevrolet pickup driven by Rosendo Salazar.
Sgt. Bill Cody says a state helicopter will patrol Wilson County all day Friday January 5 to back up ground units in enforcing traffic laws. The operation targets speed passing right of way and stop sign violations with Abandoned Gebbies Road Hazards also under review. A Beeville area helicopter patrol follows on Saturday January 6 as part of a safety initiative.
Major Kent Odom of the Texas Department of Public Safety announced a new drivers license program that begins January 2 1968 when local offices open. In person applications only with birth certificate for new original licenses and old license plus renewal card for renewals. Eye test and color photo required. duplicates via local office. No mail applications after January 1 1968. Austin will not process licenses by mail. Offices operate 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. local office in Floresville and others listed.
The Wilson Co. Farmers' Union will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday January 9 at 7 00 PM in the Community Building at Stockdale All members are urged to attend Paul McCaffrey Texas Farmers Union Ins Representative will be the main speaker for the night. Also notes on postal rate changes effective January 7 1968 and machine conversions in post offices nationwide.
Mr Truman Hanson of Austin Texas, a field famveselative for the Texas Is n of Retarded Children, will speak in Floresville at the Catholic Parish Hall Friday night January 5 at 8 00 p m The meeting aims to mobilize interested people to assist retarded children The public is invited to attend this important gathering.
In 1965 three young women applied for a pensume in the Proof Department. The applicants Vaughnell Verna and Jugzinia shared similar qualifications. Personnel Director Bob Shirey let the triplets decide who would get the job. Last month Verna and Vaughnell were working in the Trust Department while the others remained in different duties.
Paail Lee Casares age 12 son of Mr and Mrs Paul Casares of Poth bagged a 4 point and 3 point buck during a LaSalle County deer hunt on December 27 and 28. He hunted with grandparents E G Casares and other relatives also harvested deer including a 12 point buck, a 10 point buck, and a 190 point buck, all on the same LaSalle County lease.
The 1968 voter registration laws have been amended requiring all eligible residents to register to vote. This marks the first time universal registration is required to qualify for the forthcoming elections.
