Stockdale Volunteer Ambulance Service will no longer provide 24 hour ambulance service starting January 1 1985. Daytime coverage will be unavailable from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays Thursdays and Fridays. Night service remains on Tuesday.
Ron McCormick a Contel Floresville customer services supervisor received the 1984 Citizenship Award after being nominated by Richard Linnaberg Contel’s Barnet manager McCormick has chaired the Peanut Festival parade and will be its 1985 president He serves as a volunteer fireman holds ECA EMS certification and sits on several local boards Contel notes his civic involvement and youth activity support.
Karr ie Isbell, Floresville High School Home Economics teacher, is named chair for the 1985 March of Dimes Mothers March on Birth Defects in Floresville. She will lead a door to door fund raising effort January 26 27 1985 with FHA DECA and DEA student volunteers. Last year the Floresville event raised 922.72 dollars for birth defect prevention. The Mothers March began in 1950 in Phoenix Arizona and is the nation s oldest door to door campaign.
A list names recipients of Lucky Bucks with dollar values and instructs pickup at Teltschik's in downtown Floresville. Cards indicate redemption deadline January 31 1988 and provide recipient names including Glenda Merritt Irma Martinez Arthur Gonzales Frank Guero Rose Canada Henry Stalla Maria Schroller and others.
The Wilson County Showbarn hosted the annual county Christmas party on December 21 with County Judge Del Cox as MC. Honoree E J Kosarek of Poth received a plaque from Tax Collector Anna Gonzales for decades of service, including tax office deputy clerk duties and license plate sales from 1936 to 1984.
Wilson County growers are invited to an official watermelon program on Wednesday January 9 1985 at 1 30 p m in Stockdale City Hall. Speakers include Dr Wendell Horne Thomas Longbrake and Dr Roy Parker focusing on disease and insect control and cultural practices to tackle 1984 crop problems.
