The Presville Parent-Teacher Association invites students, parents, and citizens to a community Open House this afternoon. The PTA emphasizes broad participation to reflect a representative attendance from the school and district.
Seven year old David Mangino died from cancer shortly after Christmas. A public plea funded medical treatment and operations as neighbors and friends prayed for him to live beyond the holiday. The family faced sorrow despite the community’s efforts and faith.
The Loresvie School Band presents a delightful Christmas program at the auditorium on December 22. A high Tuesday evening record was prevented by a disagreeable issue, keeping many from attending, though those present praised the band’s performance and the well selected numbers. The program featured strong ensemble and solo performances throughout.
The Teltechik's Band earned top honors at the Southwest Texas regional event in Lockhart on December 5. They secured five first places and six second places, finishing second in the marching contest with 97.6 points and collected numerous trophies, cups, plaques, and ribbons at the high school gym as evidence of their success.

The 1954 March of Dimes float titled Treasure Island will join the Republic of Haiti in the California Parade of Roses. NBC will televise the event coast to coast in black and white, marking the third year of the charity’s participation. Basil O'Connor president of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis will open the 1954 March of Dimes campaign with a coast-to-coast CBS broadcast Friday January 1 from 10 45 to 11 00 PM EST. The program originates from WWL New Orleans Roosevelt Hotel. He will be introduced by Harold E Fellows president of the National Association of Radio Television Broadcasters and chairman of the 1954 campaign National Radio Television Division.
Former Vice-President John Nance Garner and associate Ross Brumfield returned an albino buck to Uvalde after a hunting trip. Brumfield killed it with seven shots to ensure success. They would not disclose the search location. It may be the first albino kill in southwest Texas, according to the pair who have hunted together for years.
On December 17 Labatt Home Demonstration Club members and families gathered at Dr. and Mrs. R E Schiefelbein’s home for a Christmas party. Games and prizes for 42 players featured men and ladies categories, gift exchange with Santa, and a prayer led by Mrs. R E Schiefelbein.
The Camp Ranch Dewees Improvement Association held its regular meeting on December 15 at the Cradia House. The president called the meeting to order, roll was called, dues were collected, and reports were read and approved. A social hour followed with refreshments served.
Martin Luther Wiley aged 78 died December 25 1958 at Floresville Hospital from a heart condition after a major San Antonio operation. The funeral at Floresville Church of Christ with ministers Frank Farris and H B Nunn. burial in Floresville Cemetery. Survived by four sons three daughters and many relatives. The Beeville area notes Mrs Dimple Di Pridgeon killed in a two car crash near Goliad.
