On Wednesday night Tax Collector Hill announced the registration of 1926 licenses. Four cars from Wilson County and aie edge were among renewals noted, with renewed licenses required for those eligible.
Egg Circle states the meeting set for Monday January 6 at 2 30 p m will be held in the office of the organization. Confirmation of location and time is expected in forthcoming notice.
Floresville voters chose a prominent local businessman as mayor in a special election to succeed the late J. H. Brown. The vote was unanimous aside from one dissenting ballot, marking a smooth transfer of city leadership.
In a special Floresville city election held December 30 at city hall, S V Houston was unanimously chosen to head the city government for the unexpired term after Mayor J H Brown died December 7. Despite cold weather and a light vote of 83, Houston received every vote, and will likely take the oath January 7. Houston previously served about 22 years as mayor, helped grow the town, and is a prominent Floresville businessman and former Texas legislator. He is president of the First National Bank and owns extensive interests in Floresville and Wilson County.
Car owners in Wilson and Bexar counties are offered ten days grace to renew 1926 licenses after a weather-related delay. Tax Collector G A Hill urges prompt compliance with the State Highway Department rules, asking for headlight certificates and last year’s receipts. After grace expires, penalties will be applied.
Local stores in Ploresville will remain closed all day today in observance of New Year celebrations. Residents are advised to stay tuned for further town updates and reopen times.
The Floresville Cemetery Association will hold its next regular meeting Friday January 8 at 3 p m at Mrs F B Seale s residence. It marks the annual officers election and important business for the coming year. Members are urged to attend and pay dues, with a cordial invitation extended to all members.
J. Marr, government cotton statistician for Wilson County, provides the Chronicle-Journal with the season’s final government ginning report. By December 1, Wilson County gins produced 6,037 bales, compared with 21,240 bales by the same date last year.
The Woman's Missionary Society will meet at the Floresville Methodist Church next Monday at 3 p.m. to install newly elected officers for the year and to plan New Year activities. A prior Christmas tree program at Three Oaks Evangelical Church was postponed due to bad weather and rescheduled for Friday January 1. Rev. San Antonio will lead the program. all members are urged to attend.
