Floresville ISD Board Meeting Highlights February 15
Floresville ISD trustees discussed tax collections and delinquent reports, trustee elections, stadium seating, and a coop with a proposed Wilson County juvenile justice project. Absent were Carlos Ortiz and Rachel Pena. Students of the Month include Michael Pena and Amy Friesenhahn. TEA recognized three campuses. Tax attorney Lee Gordon reported January through December 1999 delinquent collections totaling about $630,500, with uncollected taxes near $1 million. Texas Primary Reading Inventory results were presented for first and second grades.

Hospital Board Reviews Uninsured Children's Health Plan CHIP
Wilson Memorial Hospital board heard details of the state and federal funded CHIP program to aid uninsured children in Wilson County. The plan, managed by Community First Health Plans of San Antonio, goes into effect May 1 with coverage for doctor visits, preventive care, immunizations, tests, hospital stays, and surgery. Costs range from nothing to 18 dollars per month. office visit fees vary with income. Promotion starts April via schools, churches, and local groups. Call 1-800-647-6558 for info.

New CR 136 Borrego Creek Bridge Celebrated by Neighbors
Neighbors and Wilson County officials marked the completion of the CR 136 bridge over Borrego Creek in Precinct 1. Built at no county cost, the bridge cost the state about 15 878.50 and 27 015.03 for two projects with 80 percent federal funding and a TDHCA grant covering the county share. old bus routes and dusty roads were remembered as the old bridge rattled and sank, replaced by a steel reinforced concrete span on piles over 25 feet deep designed to state highway standards with no weight limit, set to accommodate future paved roads in the precinct.
